thanks for the show of interest man
So where is your balance at?
Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
he he he, by addind a 2oz weight (bringing the total to 14oz) it is 1 inch into the wing (going from the back)

Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
Shouldn't it be more like 1" behind the leading edge?

Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
More thoughts: possibly add a thick firewall, maybe cut a 1"x2" piece of wood, moving the engine forward? Move the wing back if possible, also I'm sure you've moved the battery pack as far forward as possible?
At least now you'll remember to check CG.

Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
yes I used a really thick firewall on my first CL model because I used a new Sure start instead of the heavy DC wasp it had before.
Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
...forgot to mention, larger heavier wheels can also add to nose weight.
Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
I think at this point, you should try to remove weight. 14oz is pushing it for an easy to fly airplane.
Did you move everything as far as you can forward?

Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
Obviously the goal is to build a plane as light as possible and if it's tail heavy, naturally you would want to remove weight if possible, but realistically there isn’t much aft of the wing you can remove.
1st step: move equipment/engine forward.
2rd step: add nose weight.
3rd step: modify airframe, move wing back and/or shorten fuselage.
4th step: all of the above
Years ago on my control line aerobatic models where CG is very critical, adding heavier wheels or lighter mains and larger tail wheel would sometimes give me the balance I would be looking for.

Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
wow, i missed alot. Yes, i have cut a large section of the rear tail. just enough to bring the CoG forward abit. using front gear would btring it up further. thanks for all the input guys
