I'm digging around in old Sears, Wards and a few other department store catalogs again. These were Christmas catalogs. I found many Cox items!

Yep, pretty neat, good reference source. It’s interesting as often you’ll see versions made for only Sears etc., not seen at hobby shop.

Here's a web site of catalogs:

Just what I needed Jacob. Another reminder that I trashed out my Cox Interceptor as a child.

Just Kidding! Great adverts.

'72 Sears catalog had the Cox foamie Me-109 only with red/white/blue graphics and called it a 'Super Eagle' This was a model made for Sears and only sold thru Sears.

I actually have the '58, '66, '73, '84 and the '85 general Sears catalogs as well as a 1978 Wards catalog. I find them at "Half Price Books". $3-10 I believe I paid. I have yet to actually scan some pages from them. They do have Cox items in them. I haven't seen any Sears catalogs at Half-Price in about a year, someone probably requested that they hold all of them just like someone did with the 8-tracks. I really go there to look at records and I used to look for more 8 tracks until I asked one day and they said that they are holding them for a guy (I wish I would have know I could do that LOL).

What did you do with the Sandblaster cars, did you have to chase after them or did they run on a line?

I came upon this thread tonight by searching "Sears" in the CEF search box. My Grandfather and Uncle were faithful Sears shoppers. My Uncle had a boat; 16' runabout with a Sears 45hp. outboard. (the engine was probably made by Evinrude or Johnson.. but didn't look anything like them).. "Gramps" had an early 80's vintage Sears "LXI-series" stereo (which I now have, and it still sounds great!) I still have all my Craftsman Mechanics Tools and steel chest from 35 years ago. I had a similar set as a teen.. but had to replace it after the chest was stolen out of my car.

I'm rambling.. Rolling Eyes .. Tonight my wife needed an emery-board for her nails.. and I have a supply of them in a paper-towel tube that I keep on a pegboard downstairs. On the same peg-hook was a Craftsman Shop Guide.

It was a very handy reference for the do-it-yourselfer of 1969. It belonged to my wife's father.

I've only had it a couple years.. but tonight I took a closer look at it for the copyright year.. and noticed some particulars. I hadn't known that there was a Sears-Canada.. "Simpsons-Sears Limited of Toronto". Maybe CEF member "Bernie" (Cox International) knows of the store chain.

According to:
http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl

That Cox RTF PT-19 in that catalog page for $10.94 in 1972 is $62.28 in today's money. Around then I bought a Cox RTF Piper L-4 Grasshopper or Stinson L-5 Sentinel (can't remember exactly which, returned to recycling on first flight), think I paid around $15 for it at Gemco in Waipahu, Hawaii same year. Ended up with another postage stamp Cox 290 as a result.

I still have many more to go through.

When my friend worked for Cox, Leisure Dynamics, Estes, etc., in the early 1980's he used to bring home some of those foam models in his trunk and let a couple of us choose what we wanted. The canario was an under powered pusher with a 49 MHz radio, (at least the one I got. The one in the ad says it used a Cox-Sanwa left-right, up-down 2 channel radio ? worth (-) $2.00.  Two Cents  Two Cents lol! lol!   The hand or rubber launched glider had a 48 inch wing, can't remember the radio, ( ad says Cox-Sanwa 2 channel?), but I still have the wing. It has a very good airfoil for slow gliders or slope soaring. Still can't think of the name of the plane, (American Eagle or Eagle 2). Both planes were free and both worth the money. At least the 2nd one.
  Thanks for the memories Admin.

Interesting. All new in the box. Smile

Prices seem high. Better examples of todays models can be found for much less. I do love that ultra light.
