Cox katydid arf build 78NRT
I have had this plane for over a year now, and it is finally time to actually do some work on it
so far what i have done is attach the elevator, rudder and glue the two wing halves together
please feel free to give tips on how you might go about finishing a plane
P.s. im going with out l.g's because I have a perfect grass feild by my house that I intend to fly in
thanks

Put an engine in it. Plumb it with electrics and go fly.

I like your T-Shirt!

What did you want to know specifically?

thanks for the compliment on the shirt Smile
im buying at engine from happy dad for the plane, i probably do have the electronic's that i need but i will have to look as i have not checked my supply in a while
I was wondering if there are any special considerations that I should take when I am building, and how it flies.
It says on the box that AUW should be around 24oz which is on the heavy side of what i want to get this thing to way, i assume they were using standard size servo's and i could probably save a few ounces by using servos that way around 9grams, but with a wingspan of 42'' should i use 9g servos?

based on the size of the rudder and elevator surfaces i would use something in between the 9gram and standard servos. they used to have one called a bantam midget i used for wings, etc. up to 36inches. and a 72inch wing plane would require standard servos or heavy duty steel geared servos.
it all depends on what you will be doing with the plane. if you try to do loops and aerobatics you would NOT want your servo to stall or quit on you. Two Cents happydad Small Cox Logo

thanks for the input, with me loops and other basic aerobatics is going to happen, i will opt for standard servos then

Well, at 24oz you will not be doing much aerobatics with an engine that pulls about 12oz. I think you started of correctly, you do need to keep the weight down. The load on the servos comes from the size of the rudder surfaces and the speed of you plane, and you do not need standard servos that are usually used with .40 sized engines.

The HS-65HB has carbonite gear and will take any beating you can give it (in the air). Use only lightweight stuff, tank and batteries etc are also important, and you will be rewarded with a lightweight well flying plane.

Hextronix 9 gram should work from Hobby king. Value hobby has the power HD servos that are supposed to be good also. They have some metal gear 9 gram servos.

Ditto the Hitecs.
I use them in all my lekky aerobats albeit the
MG's.
In my Old Timer (55 in 26oz) I use no name nines
No problems so far. IMO the place to save weight is
The battery I use a 150mah in mine (8 grams) if you're
Using 3 servos you could use a 210mah which are about 15 grams.
You can get them on Fleabay for a few bucks.
Very Happy

i have not gotten much done to the plane over the past day, been mainly working on my dirtbike just maintaining it Smile
the things that i have gotten done, i cut the servo mount strips down to size
i have a hs55 servo, which is all plastic gear, is there much price difference between the hs 65 and the 55?

If you're intent on using it Mitch it'll be
Ok although I'd leave it off the elevator.
The 65's are half as powerful again but the
55's are a couple grams lighter.
I've got 55's in my Bacaruda which has 'arrived'
Several times without damaging them when
Similar incidents wrote off no name 5 gram'ers.
The thing to watch out with small plakky geared
Servos is not to knock the control surfaces when
Transporting and storing the plane cos this is what
Strips the gears.
Very Happy
