After taking the engine out of my old spitfire ,i have noticed that the piston does not move when the propeller is spun.Deciding now to soak the engine in pure alchohol to see if that will release the piston,yet---CAN anyone tell me how to remove the nose cone to get to the screw to take the spinner/propeller off .I bought this old bird off @-bay and after carefull scroutony have ad to carry out quite a bit of restoration.....bugger!!!!i'll load up some pics soon this may give future vintage cox collectors an insight on what and where to look wen purchasing one of these. ne:

If the crankshaft turns when you spin the prop, but the piston does not move, then the crank-pin that connects to the piston rod is either broken, or it was assembled incorrectly.

Like Bernie said above, the plastic spinner cone should just pry off.

If an engine is frozen up, lots of people soak it in automotive antifreeze in a crock pot. That usually will free most parts up. To get the cylinder off you can use a Cox wrench. If you don't have one, a 5/8" open end wrench makes a dandy cylinder removal tool(my preference). Take off the glow head and use the wrench on the flat spot most of them have milled in the top fin. If you do have Cox wrenches, use it on the same flat, NOT the exhaust ports.

Yep the engine is gunked up,the propeller screw was a bit loose and just spinning ,not the shaft its solid hence the piston not moving...hoping a good soak will release every thing.
