Having now switched the cyinder and piston off my peewee onto my now, unsiezed TD 020, it runs great now. I now have a 020 cylinder whose piston wont pass where it was siezed. It's as if theres ridge of soms sort. However I can't see or feel anything I just wondered if it is possible to remove it, or try and polish it out with something.

Could it be a burr? They are hard to see and feel. Thin wall cylinder?

I've had a lot of success with lapping in the piston. I would find yourself some form of tubing that fits into the underside of the piston. From the skirt up to the top of the piston crown is tapered on the inside. My experience is with .049's, but I'm assuming the same applies here. If the tubing is loose into the underside of the piston, wrap some tape around the tubing until the piston has to push on. Insert the piston into the bore but install it upside down so that the skirt is at the top. The tubing will work as a handle and you can use various polishing compounds. When I'm trying to limit the material being removed, I use liquid metal polish. I've had very good success using white rubbing compound as well. You twirl the tubing holding the piston in a up and down motion. You focus on the area that you may think is where the damage is located and don't spend time at the top of the cylinder bore. Make sure all traces of this are washed and hot soapy water works well followed by a heat gun to dry. I use compressed air as well as I don't want water trapped in the ball socket joint. Follow up with assembly and a good oil . Ken

No it's salvageable, I have never cleaned up a burr like Ken just suggested, but it sounds doable that way.

I usually just find the burr and scrape it away with a knife or if it's sizeable use a round file. You could probably do what I suggested followed by what Ken suggested and have a really nice cylinder when you are done. Either way you can't go wrong.

Thanks Guys, Mission accomplished. You were right I thing there was a burr on the inside of the port. Possibly from cylinder removal. Anyway PeeWee running like a bird again now, they seem to be so dependable, Like the Babe Bee, I just love 'em to bits. One more question because the red anodising is damaged, is it easy to polish it off. I fancy a nice polished ali tank. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Bravo, another one saved! Can't tell you about removing the anodizing. I do believe it's better to have it on the inside of the crank tube.

If you want to remove the red anodize then chuck it in the drill and use fine sandpaper and sand it away. I have a couple scrap tanks. I will try it on one today and get back to you. That way you don't ruin one of your good ones.

It works!

I used 180 grit to get the anodize off, then jumped to 1000grit to clean it up. Took all of 3 minutes.
