Cox Engine of The Month
Reed Valve Material

Reed Valve Material
Has anybody done a comparison of the different reeds that Bernie has available?
The steel vs mylar vs teflon.
I'm wondering if in the GTP car, because the engine runs hot, would the mylar or teflon reed melt or deform?
Read online that mylar temp range goes up to 300 degrees F, and it melts at 500.
Teflon melts at 620 F.
Does the GTP nissan engine get that hot? close to 300 ?

Re: Reed Valve Material
I wouldn't worry about the reed melting. The black plastic back plate melts at a much lower temperature.
