help to identify mustang
Hello I recently purchased a fixer upper cox p-51 bubble canopy mustang . it seems to be a nice unused plane but was painted blue at some point,no big deal I stripped it and under the paint was a nicely preserved dark green mustang ,the only origional markings is the rudder being painted yellow with a large # 7 on it ,and there are small patches painted yellow on the leading edges of the wings to represent the cannons , the yellow paint appears to be origional and was under the blue paint . I have checked all the pictures I can find and the only mustang I can find with a yellow rudder is the silver invasion mustang ??? I am trying to figure out what the proper decals are for this plane . cilinder to the side on this version. thanks for any help, cheers Roger

thanks Mark it's the one in the bottom picture, I am sure , I can tell because mine has the plastic strut covers on the landing gear wire just like the one in the picture .someone must have used the invasion decals before they painted it .I see now the yellow on the tail is a decal ,I though it was paint but it's actually a decal .it was amazing how well preserved the plane was under all that paint . the plastic is as shiny and bright as new . makes you wonder why anyone would have painted it in the first place .I think it looks kind of cool with the invasion colors but I think I will get the origionals. . thanks mark . regards Roger
