Hello everbody hope things are fair to midland. looking to build me a single man flight station, something on wheels to take to my garden area i am to clear for flying some cl 1/2a for now. going to make it on wheels to transport easly on rough ground, bending down seems to be more than i can handle with a bad hip, i want to fly by myself sometimes when i have no help and is very disscurging. a rolling table should do it and i can't seem to find that paper that shows how to make a release for my plane at the controls you know the quick release thing -e. anyone have any pic i could get some ideas from. THANKS AHEAD!! RC Plane RC Plane

A cooler on wheels? A wheelbarrow? Garden trailer or wagon?

I use a wing wrap stooge made from a board, a couple clamps, and an old towel. This gets clamped to a table. A brick, or my battery pack, get used to add tension to the wing. I use some thin foam board insulation for plank wings that have support ribs sticking out so the rib doesn't catch in the fabric. Others use bathmats with a strap, or a couple shaped foam blocks. These work great for small airplanes without wheels, and often with wheels too. Not so good for biplanes.

If you have a runway and wheels then a pin stooge through the tail wheel with a pull cord release is what you need.

I reloaded a new chalk line with pink braided mason's line for my pull line, and bought a stooge assembly from Brodak. I have not yet set it up though.

For additional ideas check the Search file for "stooge".

Usually our g'kids make GREAT "stooges". Laughing

Good morning!

This is my take on Rusty's system for launching his 1/2A's. He has a mobile set up on a wagon, whereas I pack along a table that brings the plane up a bit higher.

It's a padded Walmart floor mat that I hold in place with self tapping screws and dimpled washers. You just draw the plane out of this sleeve with your handle and are off !

The screws can be repositioned to fit what ever wing size you're launching.

I also use a pin & block set-up for rolling takeoffs, but Rusty's launcher has a lot less fiddling around.

Me too

My plan is for one of the large tire wagons from Harbor Freight or Northern Tool with a removable platform that can haul all my flight gear and a stooge. RknRusty showes off his very simple bath mat stooge several different places on this site but I can't get a search to work this morning (probably have to clear my chache) His design is good enough for most 1/2a wing types, is cheap and very easy to set up

All too complicated for my simple mind as I fly with other people which is one of the best parts of flying.

I do so enjoy those interactions. Great fun!

Those carts are great !! I put a lot of mileage on mine back in my "Fly-In Days" when I was running to Little Rock for S.M.A.L.L. Fly-In's and assorted other destinations. The flight line was usually some distance from where I parked, and a double-decker trailer was just the ticket!

Here is my stooge. Most of the planes take off fine without the bar stool. It gets it up to a better height for fueling and cranking, and for a more sluggish plane a little more height to fly off. The bungee cord and the brick follow the Trail edge of whatever plane I'm launching to keep the plane from rotating. There is a cord staked into the ground so I don't pull it over. I use the bathmat with the rubber on the inside and it works best when it gets oily after a couple of flights. It should need only a very light pull on the lines to release the plane. You don't want to stress the bellcrank. Never had an accident or even a near accident.

Here it is with the optional bar stool.

Here is the European version of the Rusty-type. The bath mat and brick are replaced by 2 foam pieces to create a hollow wing. Looks nice but not suitable for every wing profile and it seems to be very close to the ground.

It has an adjustable launch angle. I actually sometimes put a 1/2"x3" board under my table to point it slightly up when it's on the bar stool.

I use a brick to raise the nose of my heavier airplanes. I point the airplane up about 30 degrees. I have tried 45 degrees but it didn't work as well. These planes would probably do better with landing gear and a running start.

Starting a rather light airplane pointing up like that will put you into an immediate wing over, so these are best started quite level.
