The Fourth of July in Tahalketna, AK

The Fourth of July in Tahalketna, AK
Each year on the Fourth Tahalkenans hold a HUGE "moose dropping" contest using their planes.
Prior moose droppings are collected and painted in decorative fashion with numbers. A target is placed on the ground and the pilots load their decorated droppings into their planes to be dropped over the trarget from a predetermined altitude. The pilot who comes closest the the "Bull's Eye" wins a nice new 4X4 truck.
My kind of fun!

I guess when all you have is snow, planes and moose pucks you find something to tie it all together.

Ron.
Certainly NOT all of Alaska is covered with snow year-round. Tahalketa is no exception.
The only way to know Alaska is to see it for yourself not once but MULTIPLE times. Pictures and movies are only "treasers" for what is there to be experienced.

Oh, yeah I know I was making a funny or at least trying to anyway. I haven't had an opportunity to visit yet, but as luck would have it I am able to go for work.
I like the fact that even though the growing season is short you can end up with some very nice vegetables due to the increased daylight.
Nothing better than a Moose steak and fresh veggies! Or perhaps a nice plate of Salmon!!!! Can you tell it's almost supper?

Ron:
Alaska's Matanuska Valley is prime vegetable land producing some of the largest and finest "vegies" in the world.
I hope you become as enthralled with Alaska as I am. We traveled by Elmendorf AFB out of Anchorage and it's so HUGE it takes up the horizon for MANY miles. In that region the land is quite level.

No, but Sara Palin looked pretty "hot" in her neoprene waders when we went by Wasilla, AK.
