Lol, it's a start!

You do know that the end is nowhere close to being in site?

My first year of flying stunt i was at a contest in Peoria, when a stranger came up to me and ask me if i'd like to try a small O.K. Cub....

I've got more I'm chasing. And of course, I'm in the infinite search for early dual bypass cylinders. So I'm sure I'll buy many more parts engines trying to find some.

I thoroughly clean all my engines and parts. Spent quite a few hours doing so. But none of them are dirty because I haven't built a plane yet. I'm contemplating building an RC plane. Just haven't decided on one yet.

Once you start using them you will forget all about collecting.

I would use the old ones sparingly and run the tar out of the TD's

it's your $, do what you want. Thats the cool thing with this hobby there are no rules.

But, if it was a nice new or like new early Tee Dee, i'd probably not run it...if i had three or four, i'd run one.

You can always bag the original piston/cylinder set and run one of Bernie and Matt's new ones. As long as you don't run it with dirt in it and use after run oil, making sure it gets in the nose, the bearings will last a long time.

You can have the best of both worlds, I put the rare or new in box engines on the shelf and use the not so rare as runners.
And keep plenty of parts around to play with!

May I point out, that the use of those tiny zip-seal bags is excellent. I buy them in 4 sizes (bags of 100 for about a buck...) in WalMart's jewelry dept. There's absolutely no better way to store your small parts; engine or otherwise. Small white paper labels are great for organizing too...

As far as the little zip-seal bags are concerned; there's a trick to opening them without "tearing them"... using dry fingers on one hand; place the bag's "seal" between your thumb and third-finger and along with some pressure... snap your finger. This will slide the bag open in quick order and makes using them; much less of a PIA...

The bin storage is great too... if you can find descent "cheap" ones... it's worth the money to buy several of the same size. Moveable dividers can be temporarily secured with dots of clear silicone adhesive at their joints.

The "queen" of my collection is a NIB TD .049 (circa 1974) that I purchased from the legendary Paul Gibeault several years ago.  (BTW, it has a BLACK venturi)

I believe the best collections are those that contain a variety of engines rather than concentrating on a single example.

SD

BTW, my collector engines reside in purple "Crown Royal" bags.

It seems only fitting as they serve "double purpose".     lol!

The Plano boxes work good for storing engines and then they can be stored in a larger storage bin so everything is together.

Well gentlemen - you are all very neat and tidy!

My solution is - Find a shelf and dump your engines in sight (Out of sight out of mind!)

How's my Cox engine collection so far? 3d_pri10

Leave them close to you as a reminder!

How's my Cox engine collection so far? 3d_pri11

Clutter any spare space!

How's my Cox engine collection so far? 3d_pri12

If you run out of space - a cardboard box works wonders!

How's my Cox engine collection so far? 3d_pri13

Obviously, the more boxes the merrier!

Ian obviously actively loves and cherishes the elegance and diversity of these wonderful- de-construct and appreciate that word - mechanical works of art. That helps me understand what one can get out of collecting the pieces and the knowledge associated with each one. As a non-collector, looking in, I can get that.

Cardboard boxes rule !!!!  I'm lucky in that my job provides me an almost endless supply of heavily-made boxes that seem to fill up as fast as I scarf them.

Also though, if you have a "Collection of Runners" whose members occasionally go AWOL, a fairly cheap tool chest will let you track down the little suckers pretty quickly!

This also allows you to easily pick and rotate "Special Guest Stars" for Desk Duty...

Lol! We'll I enjoy your youtube channel so I'm glad you took the plunge in the engine world. I'm waiting like a school kid waiting for my new diesel head for my magnum gp40 to come in the mail today. I used the rjl head for years and I found a diesel head maker on ebay so I'm going that route. I try not to buy anything from old grumpy davis diesel.

Thanks man! I'd like to see a video of that diesel conversion! Yeah, I called Mr. Davis several years ago. Can't remember the exact conversation, had questions about running diesels in general, and DO remember feeling like I ticked him off. Still got several parts he manufactured, and the 'Diesel Thing' may kick off with me at some point.

Nothing better than the school kid waiting for the mail feeling!!!
