The good: Turns a big prop, sips fuel, looks good and is a great choice for a slow flier or Texaco FF engine.
The Bad: not much of a CL engine!
I've only bench run them so I can't tell you much else.

Craig, are you familiar with the Texaco competition? It was an R/C duration event. The rules allowed a specific amount of fuel and contestants would fly the longest time they could possibly nurse out of that tank. I'm not sure how time and distance were scored. It's not at all an aggressive engine. I did a quick search but didn't turn up a better explanation. It could be a good fun power plant for a very light floaty R/C plane.

Re: cox texaco engine vintage one
....well it all started on a sleepy, hot summer day in a small town out in the middle...ok, maybe not that story.
Pretty sure it first came out in '89, that's what the date (1/89) is printed on a early owners manual, but it didn't appear until the '91 catalog and was discontinued in '00, I believe.
Like the previous posts, it was designed for a contest class, with special glowhead designed for cooling and low compression to swing a larger prop and small (.062) intake for fuel economy.
I'd bet Larry Renger, Bob Beecroft or Bill Schmidt would know more about it, I'll try to contact them and see if I can get more info.
I remember during a phone chat with Bill he mentioned that purple was being tossed around as the tank color, so I'm guessing he had some input with Cox?
