There was an R/C Shrike?

I have a parts bucket one. It is shattered a bit but I have all the pieces and I had big dreams of getting it rolling again with a throttled TeeDee and better lighter radio gear. Shelved the idea for now. No brakes on the things,,so once it fired off and got rolling,,well,, make sure you are a good driver with lots of open space and no curbs.

The engine nacelle was replaced on that one with a red one, suppose to be all black with a red canopy. You see them from time to time on ebay. You'll definitely need some room to run one... probably just drive it in a big circle

i finaly got my home made one going yesterday no radio just teathered an it runs a modded product motor in an ducted fan set up...ill post a video if any one is interested?

What did you use for your wheel and axle set up? It stopped pretty quick and seemed a little slow. Is there a lot of friction when turning the wheels?

nah the wheels turn quite easily only three of them an they have brass bushing on piano wire axels

It's just seems like I've seen a shrike go pretty fast in a circle, but I guess the length of the tether is a factor as well.

as requested...some close ups of my creation

construction is manly toilet roll inner cardboard several peaces super glued together an a solid balsa nose cone added on (once the nose wheel well was carved out)

i then made a cpl of formers to fit inside an a few stringers to help support the cardboard. an a fuel tank from an old eye dropper was added an rear firewall...front axle is extended out to the bridle mounting an rear axle assembly added so that shroud would be more stable (it tore off on first attempt at starting) as you can see from the repairs...it tended to vibrate a lil

i want to run the engine a few more tomes to finish off its running in an reduce the number of head shims to a single one as itss still running a lil rich atm

Thanks for posting the photos! Homemade models are my passion.. and I really enjoy seeing other modelers' creations! What did you use for a fuel pick-up? I did read the part about the "old eye-dropper".. but I see fill/vent tubes, and am curious. I am guessing that the 4-blade prop is the most efficient to run in a duct/shroud? It would be interesting to convert a model rocket kit into your type of design!

This is my "Bull-Pup"... and I'm imagining it set-up like your model! Maybe make a "modular design"... where the engine/tank would "slide-in" to the body and connect to the rear section for easy access/maintenance?

My modifed D engine "Big Daddy" during finishing paint..

Was thinking a Tee Dee .15 with a cut prop, maybe add a roll loop to protect it. light epoxy the fins and axle across those for the rear tires.  Add a balsa streamlined strut for the front wheel.

That looks very cool. You may get some more revs if you switch to a 2 blade prop.

i did run a two blade earler on with my experiments but the 4 blade seemed to give better thrust ...(i was using an old hand held scales on the ground using different props i)

Roddie i designed the car to resemble a rocket...i have 5 g/kidds two of which can be seen/heared in first video) my point is that im trying to get the kidds interested in cars esp tethered ones as there isent any RC gear to contend with thus far they love it

im nxt thinking of a 020 powered slot car chasis as some one suggested to me awhile back

Hello Friends and Hobbyists, I am new to this Forum and have a great deal of info to share with everyone. Yes, there was a R/C shrike. If You do a little internet research You will see that it came molded in Black. I remember the Original shrikes were a Bright Lime green, then they changed to Yellow. In My last 15 years of research and speaking to some of the guys in the "Gas Toy Collector" Paperback issues & club, Evidently they wrote to Cox and asked Cox to manufacture the Shrike in Red which was the last edition of the "Shrike" Bill.
