Probably an early fancy term for ABC/ABN fits. Such as when the P/C has a tight pinch when cold, and a perfect fit when hot. Or maybe visa versa. Is the Veco an ABC?

Temperature Controlled Clearance (TCC) was WAY before ABC/ABN. It was an advertising gimmick for a tapered cylinder. By adding taper, the fit was more loose except near the top of the stroke which helped it run cooler. I believe someone tested it by running the engine on a flywheel right out of the box...it did not overheat. Other engines started using either a tapered piston or a tapered cylinder but VECO had already captured the spotlight with TCC. If I remember correctly, this started in early/mid fifties.

Thank you George - a fine answer!
I always wondered if developments like tapering cylinders and pistons were planned or discovered by accident.
