I wouldn't mind one of those for an .09-.15 build.

Ian, This is my OS .10FP that I bought 20 years ago.. It's never had a glow-plug in it!

O.S. Max 10 FP Os_10_12

I bought this Ace kit for it at the same time... (I know how you love Bipes!)

I like the combination - there is something about biplanes I find appealing.

But this then leads me to ask - If these are now 20 years old - you obviously open them up and look at them very now and again - not yet built(the kit) and not yet run (the engine) - How many more kits and engines have you stashed away?

I thought I was bad with engines but I build kits almost straight away!

Mind you - I have a high turnover of aeroplanes - everyone of them flies but they don't all "land"!

Strange - it is only the last inch that does all the damage!

I used to have an Ace All Star with an O S FP .10. It was tons of fun. I think the .10 was on the under powered side for this plane (I think a good sport .20 would have been perfect) but it was so fun that I kept on flying is with the .10. Great combo!!!

I'm still trying to work my way through my FSR engines...
The .10FSR is a very nice engine, I have modded the head on one for a little higher compression ratio and it does 14700rpm on an APC 7x4 on 0% nitro... Smile

I might have an addiction though;

It is not a bad addiction to have!

I like the O.S. engines - the castings are crisp and they are well built.

Despite repeated attempts in contacting OS placing the FP line in high regards, OS wishes not to offer parts support for these engines. The .10 had a bit of a short life as most small displacement typically have. I suppose it's a small niche to fill and therefore sales aren't generally as high as the larger stuff. The needle valve assembly for the control line OS FP .10 was a very high quality part. This part is pretty much unobtainable. I desire them as well as many others. Some how bigger also seems better to the majority and therefore this sets a trend. I can recall in the 70's when my father was flying r/c daily a .15 size plane was pretty much the norm. Ken

I agree and, in general, parts support from a few engine manufacturers leaves little to be desired.

In the late 60's and early seventies a .15 engine was the norm. For me, I had the advantage of a .19's interchangeable with the .15. A .35 was really the upper limit.

I believe the size has been pushed up because of the forced introduction of silencers.

I remember having a stunt plane with an Enya .15 - it flew very well but when I added the silencer (and a little weight at the tail) - it struggled to take off.

The FSR are with the traditional steel/iron technology and they are very close to the later FP series in terms of power. The problem with the FP series is that they are ABN, and only have a very thin nickel coating in their liners. This will fairly quickly wear out and then the piston gets damaged too. Below is an .10 FP engine that still runs fairly okay, but doesn't look good at all inside...

Yes, isn't it? I've done my share of Figure-9's over the years. Very Happy

I have a stash of old kits unbuilt yet. My work kept me extremely busy and didn't have much time to build. Now that I am retired, I have more time on my hands to build them. Among those RC kits collected over the years are: 1) 56" Goldberg Falcon III, 2) 50" TIdewater Pronto, 3) 50" Andrews S-Ray, 4) 46" Hobby Shack The Real Thing, 5) 42" Midwest Bebe Jodel, 6) 48" Airco Aero Star, 7) 36" Airtronics Gere Sport biplane, Cool 48" Hobby Shack Cessna 177 foam ARF, 9) 34" DeBolt Livewire Kitten, 10) 30" Scientific Shoestring, 11) 55" Hobby Lobby Miss Stik Senior, 12) 2M House of Balsa 2x2 glider.

The 45" Berkeley Impulse (1959) build is now in progress with an A.C. Gilbert .11 Thunderhead to power it.

The Gere Sport I plan to power with an NOS OS Max .15RC cross scavenge. The 1953 Livewire Kitten, I plan to power with a 1963 A.C. Gilbert .074 Thunderhead and make it 2 channel (originally rudder only).

The rest, I have a lot of legacy engines that will power them.  Beer Cheers
