What a Bargain!!
Have a look at this.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Cox-049-Model-Engine-Rear-Carburettor-Early-1980-039-s-/261527659993?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276
Someone really did their homework. Them rear carb versions are rare no doubt. Plus you get an original wrench!!! How good it that?
Sorry guys, looks like anyone outsude Australia is out of the running.
Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on my countryman.

Re: What a Bargain!!
Appears to be a Cox "290" engine from an RTF. Many RTF's back then did "one shot" flights. It's a decent engine perhaps a touch hotter than the Sure Starts. When Cox went to the venturi back plate with mount holes made engine mounting easier. Previous editions used a square back plate, which made manufacturer mounting in the RTF easier, but left the owner of the donor engine to fabricate a mounting system. Goldberg back then offered a nylon using Cox tank mount bolt spacing that bolted to the back of the square plate. One could have also filed off the flanges on the back plate and use 2 pieces of sheet metal bent and drilled to form a mounting system. Older 290 engine is in the front row middle of the photo.Oldenginerod wrote:Have a look at this. E-Bay AU Vintage-Cox-049-Model-Engine-Rear-Carburettor-Early-1980 Someone really did their homework. George, you probably already know, but those red postage stamp backplates likely have 128tpi needle valves in them. Nice little spraybars to have for running on pressure. I'd say our Australian friend on eBay is embellishing his ordinary engine a bit though.

Re: What a Bargain!!
Rusty, I have yet to use pressure, but it does have the fine threaded needle and as such makes it a joy to adjust even on gravity fuel pressure. AFAIK, the earlier 290 engines with Sure Start type venturi back used the same fine thread needle. (I have one of those backs.)RknRusty wrote:George, you probably already know, but those red postage stamp backplates likely have 128tpi needle valves in them.
