A new CL flier!!!l
Last week my pal Moonie went with me to Buder park and flew Kim's PT-19 for a couple laps before it crashed.
He was gifted a Baby and Beginner Ringmaster By Dan McEntee and we managed to cobble together a parts Babe Bee for it. The Beginner Ring flew well when under power, but the Bee is a pain to start and runs erratic. I wish I had the parts I need to get it to run well, but we made do with what we had.
Here is a short video of one of the flights he put up today. We had a great time despite the cranky Bee.

Next time out it should run better. Erratic running is usually dirt, or needs more break in time.
For dirt, remember your needle setting (it is quicker this way, but not necessary) pull the needle. Flush through the needle threads to clean the reed and blow crap out the intake. Wipe the needle if necessary. Reinstall the needle, set it, clear the flood by tilting the engine sideways and flipping it a couple times to drain the case. Fill the tank and start it. It will act flooded at first, but should be much better after this.

I just took the engine apart for the fourth time. It was clean, all I found was a small piece of plastic flashing from the reed which I removed and doubled up on the venturi gasket as I have no spares.
I took it out to the hotel parking lot and fired it off. It runs much better. Not perfect like I like, but much better.
You should have seen the looks I got

I considered that, but the smoke alarm is so sensitive it goes off from the steam when I shower!!!

Hey, good for Moonie, he got a bunch of laps and made the right reflex moves to save it a couple of times. That's the sign of a natural pilot in the making, When you get a solid run he'll probably think it's so easy he'll feel like an expert. Thanks Ron for introducing him to the sport. A day like that is both fun and relaxing.

Re: A new CL flier!!!l
Yeah, he really likes it. He's a younger guy (26) and he saw me fly in Wichita last year.
I tossed him a 1/2A kit, and he has yet to fly it so this trip worked out well. He had a great time despite the lame Bee. We have since worked that out so tomorrow we will run back to Buder park and get serious.
That plane flew great when on song, but it was a devil when released. The thing would cross over center and attack him. It was hilarious and he even managed to keep it aloft. Good times. I couldn't stop laughing!
Anyway, let's hope he stays interested. I may give him my Ringmaster...

Good going Ron! Like Rusty said, Moonie looks like a natural.
Plus, he's left-handed - I like him already!

Thanks Mike,
Here's Moon today with the Bee running a little better. We goaded him into doing a loop and it went splat, no damage done though.
That's Dan McEntee giving pointers in the background.
My day didn't go as well. Both the planes I brought ran poor. They kept running away no matter how rich I would set the needle...

Try to get him to nip away at 45* wingovers, then higher until he gets it all the way over the top. Then point out to him he really did sort of a giant loop, only with a flat bottom. That might help his confidence knowing that he can fly it through. rather than yank and hope.

Seems like we're being awfully easy on Moonie....ought to at least make him wear a Propeller Beanie or something similar during his initiation....
