Your experiences with Ohisson & Rice???

I couldn't resist it even though my PayPal account looks like a ledger from Bank of America. Last model engine I'm buying for awhile, promise, probably maybe.
I have always wanted one of these, and the seller sounded connected and knowledgable so I pulled the trigger so to speak. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these?
Edit add: Neat little engine properly shipped with the needle valve out and taped to the side of the engine.
Nice little O/R crest on the front too.

Don't have any experience with an O&R .049, but looks like a neat little engine. You've got a neat little piece of history, now is the time to show it off with the appropriate era airframe.

Re: Your experiences with Ohisson & Rice???
Hmmm, I thought this thread died a long time ago, it didn't get any initial responses so I thought this must really be a bum engine without a following. I did some checking and the makers have quite a history in the hobby.
I know that build/fly thing. Sometimes my mind drifts. Great example here. Can you see what I forgot to do?
Earlier test fitting.
And GG... a nice little .049 Bipe would just fit that O&R.

They didn't think a whole lot of it in 1955.

It's a good looking engine though.

Seems to be on par with the .049's of the day, the OK Cubs, etc. 13,000 RPM is a tad less than a good Babe Bee, seems more like Cox Pee Wee power. Would probably go good on a Joe Wagner Dakota Bipe FF, an Ebenezer FF. A lightly built hollow log or profile Scientific would probably work also. Something like Hal DeBolt's Livewire Kitten RC would probably work also.
We are spoiled by today's standards.

Re: Your experiences with Ohisson & Rice???
I never had any experience with the .049's but I've used the larger O&R's up to .60 size. The cylinders were non removable due to a spot weld that held them on. A neat feature as they would fail and the cylinder would blow off. If anyone ever watched Spongebob, it reminds me of Gary the snail being raced. Makes me laugh every time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRGAtFL25Js Ken

Thanks for posting that link Ron, I learned allot about this engine without having to take it apart.
Halfway through the article when they started questioning the performance and 0.117 BHP horsepower claim the thought started running through my brain that they perhaps were evaluating a less than best example, something substantiated in the last paragraph where they acknowledged the same.
Overall it's construction is not main stream for 1/2A engines, the make-up of the connecting rod especially comes to mind. However the reed valve looks very similar to the early Babe Bees.
When I get a chance I will clean it up. It has been ran and put away wet. I may even find a not to complicated Bipe to try it on.
Thanks to all for contributing to my (our) knowledge regarding these.
BTW, what I forgot was to leave an opening for the upper wing supports. I got to looking at it, thinking well, that didn't turn out too bad, then it struck me. I had to cut one out, but then, I would have had to do that any way. Looking at my other Nieuport the sheet balsa is seamless and I can't remember how I did that. You loose a lot of memory in forty years.
