17K is pretty good for an Estes Sure Start. That'll pull most anything designed for a reed 1/2A. Put 'er on a plane and relieve the boredom the right way.

You may want to try this instead of building yours:

http://coxengines.ca/cox-.049-engine-firewall-helicopter-mount.html

This is for the Surestarts with snorkels. I have and used couple of'em and confirm to be a good one.

Thanks I forgot Bernie had those I'm gonna pick up a couple of them since I have another brand new Sure Start that hasn't seen any fuel yet. I'm gonna break it in and see if it holds compression and if it does I'm gonna do the same mod that I did to my experimental surestart minus the piston. Taking out the restrictor and drilling the snorkel at the venturi along with the piston refit and TD head really woke it up. it's almost up to a black widow in power. (Bandit)

Do you have any data before the mods?

Maybe there could be a "tach-race" just for sure starts? One standard and one unlimited, to see what can be done...

13.5k was all I got before It started loosing compression. The sure starts are kinda hit n miss you sometimes get a good one others not this is due to estes just slapping them together plus you got to watch for chips from the machining process so its wise to tare them down and clean them out before you run them As stated I have a bone stock one that I'm gonna do a run to compare the two provided that it holds compression after break-in.
A tach race for surestarts sounds cool though hmm. Huh... (Bandit)
