I bought this about 7-8 years ago at WalMart. It was in the Springtime... and was one of 3 or 4 that hadn't sold. They were originally $49.95 USD and the price was reduced several times. I held-out until this last one was blown-out @ $13.00!! The manufacturer was "Interactive Toy Co." of Canada.

It came with an extra set of skis that have wheels.

It's a nice model.. with some nice detailing. It has head/brake lights and came with a 9.6V NiCd pack with Tamiya connectors, AC charger and 49 MHz radio.

Well, we all know you have enough snow to run that up and down your driveway. When you gonna post a video??   Maybe do some time trials to compare to Lieven's Cold
Snow plane!  cheers

That was certainly a bargain but I would be surprised if the NiCad pack has held out. Even then - in the UK the NiCad pack would have cost more than $13!

Lieven, This is a 1:8 scale snowmobile. It is approx. 50mm long x 25mm wide. For $13.00 it was impossible for me to resist buying it. I've only used it a couple of times. The 9.6V NiCd pack is the typical "AA" style 4/4 flat-pack found in many "store-bought" R/C toys. I've gotten some pretty good deals (which were also close-outs) on extra battery-packs including AC wall charger.. because I also have a New Bright-"Fountain" RC V-Hull boat that uses the same pack.

This snowmobile might be a little more fun with a sub-C pack strapped to the rider's back. It would yield longer run-times and provide for better traction.. but would also make it excessively top-heavy. Gutting it for a brushless/LiPo combo would be the ultimate.. but is beyond my skill-set.

The one-piece rubber/plastic track also develops "memory" where it bends around the idlers. This causes some "surging" in the drive-line until it runs for a bit. Possibly heating the track with a hair-dryer prior to running would alleviate this.. but I haven't tried it. A "linked" track would be nice.. because if/when this one breaks.. the fun is over. If I were to build a "custom" sled.. I'd explore building a track using the wiring-guides that you see on machinery that uses "moving carriages".

I had the sled out this past weekend and took a photo of it in the snow.

Performance wasn't great.. but I attribute that to the old NiCd pack(s) that I was using. The packs are 9.6V AA 600 and 800mAH. Amazon has Ni-MH 2200mAH AA packs which would be a nice upgrade..

I love such things. With newer or more modern batteries, you will gain performance for sure. I hope you will get it out again this winter.

Hi Lieven, Yes.. more modern batteries will surely improve performance. NiCd's were ok.. when they were the only game in town.. but that was a Longggggg time ago.

Winters in New England have become notoriously inconsistent. Today here in Northern Rhode Island the temp. was 51 degrees F. early afternoon. Just one week ago it "snowed"....... and was in the 20's at warmest for several days. More snow is in the forecast.. but the sled works best on hard-packed snow.. or snow that's gone through a few "thaw/re-freeze" cycles.. (crusty).

I have an RC boat that takes a 9.6V "hard-pack" that I could convert for a Tamiya harness/connector which would make it worth purchasing an upgrade-pack.

I've loved snowmobiles ever since I was a kid. My Uncle Ray had a Morgan horse farm and bought his 1st sled (a Bombardier/SkiDoo) at Kelton's (Horse people) in White River Junction (VT?) around 1970 (I was 10 years old) and a second bigger machine from them, 3 or 4 years later. His neighbor had a SkiDoo TNT 440.. which Cox modeled their's after!
