P-63 King Cobra is inbound

I followed this for a couple of ebay cycles and when the seller dropped the price to $39.95 I made a bid and "won" it. I have seen worse lookers go for more. It looks like the exact same model as Wen Mac's airacobra P=39 except for the paint job.

Looking at the side decal it seems like it hasn't been disassembled, a good thing.

But, it has lost a lot of the "cheezy" chrome finish, so I will probably use Marks method of bagging it with some brake fluid to remove what's left and then repaint with a plastic based silver.

Worst part is - the four bladed prop is busted, I have wanted a model with a four blade for quite some time now.

I Wonder if a hair dryer could help remove those decals?

If you have a airbrush, there a company call Alcad thats makes a really good chrome paint, its not cheep and takes some work, black base coat, chrome, clear coat, etc... But you may be ok with just a can of Rustoleum chrome and a can of gloss clear for a clearcoat.

That's the one! I stand corrected on my recent introduction. See, told y'all I was forgetful.

My Father was holding the control handle and I started the engine, released the plane, forgot to step back and got knocked down when it came around and hit me in the elbow.

The third picture down, the one with the propeller nut and washer is what I think I saw when it hit me, as it came around in full hue and cry. But it didn't break the prop. Very creepy picture when I saw that.

Seems the "chrome" started coming off after the first start.

I didn't know these were ever imported to Finland. The seller staes that the engine is stuck at the moment but he has had it operational before, so it is probably just gummed up with castor oil.

I didn't have any oven cleaner so I used Mark's suggestion to use brake fluid to remove the silver from the King Cobra and it worked really well. I tried it on the belly pan first which was about 85% silver, 3% hardened castor and the rest just raw plastic. It took off all of the silver but isn't the magic bullet for castor.

I will coat the rest of the parts with a paint brush, then wrap it in a plastic bag.

Just for giggles I tried sandblasting (aluminum oxide) this over the hill Wen Mac SNJ, and it turned out well. No damage to the plastic or detail. But, this seems to be a different plastic than the King Cobra's.
