Ain't that Medallion a sweet engine! Great video, thanks for showing us. I really should get another one. I have one that I haven't used lately, but if you gotta have a spare Cox engine, the Medallion is the one you want.

Nice run Rusty. How does this MP compare to a NV BigMig in terms if output and what size prop did you have on it?
Why are the head fins standing across the airflow?

Re: My well used medallion!
Although I've played with it on the bench, I've never flown it. The T-28 mentioned in the video turned out to be falling apart too much and is now an ornament. I also have a ball bearing factory Race Special version of the same engine that I haven't flown yet either. I'm getting started on some Stuntman 23s and will probably use the one in the video on one of them.balogh wrote:Nice run Rusty. I can't come up with a smart answer for that. There are a couple of threads on these in the Engine discussion forums.balogh wrote:Why are the head fins standing across the airflow?

Re: My well used medallion!
it appears to me that the head was installed improperly. the head bolt pattern is symmetrical so you should be able to remove the head bolts and rotate the head 90 degrees

This one is a plain bearing. I have a BB factory race special version too.TDbandit wrote:...Is it bushed or ball bearing?? (Bandit)
I just put the head on wrong in my haste to make a movie.

The MP Jets are great engines, very sturdy and perhaps a little bit more powerful than the NV .061, in my experience. I have an old and worn BB one that does close to 20000rpm on an APC 5.7x3 prop (10%Nitro), with the stock RC carb and muffler. That is actually close to 100W, from a completely stock engine.
The DG racing tuned one will do +23000 rpm on the same prop.
Once you dare to try something else than cox, it is very hard to go back...

The MP Jet .061's will also very happily swing bigger and higher pitched props. A 7X3 is well within the capability of these engines. This gives the option of way more thrust than we are used to seeing from our little engines.

Re: My well used medallion!
There was a time that I thought Medallion engines were of lesser importance, but after having owned a few I find them to be quite suitable as "everyday" engines.
The beauty of them is you can swap out the cylinder and head for a TD unit and pick up a couple revs and still be able to run off of a hard tank.
TD's are superior in performance, it's just they lack suction making bladders the better choice for them. Hard tanks are easier to fill in a hurry and don't blow up in my face.
Not knocking bladders mind you as a good bladder run can't be beat.
I wish I had a couple more Medallions to mess with.
So Bandit, now that it runs well, what's your planes... er... plans?

Re: My well used medallion!
It's destined for my Brodak Wildcat I was going to put my TD in it but figured that the medallion might be a better choice for the time being. Anyway, It doesn't lack much just got to have some time to do it which I've been kinda short of lately.
