It's a lonely old night!

It's a lonely old night!
Well here I sit at the end of my 53rd birthday. My wife's gone away cycling for the weekend. My youngest son's busy working in a restaurant tonight and my elder son is out "celebrating" quitting his perfectly good job today.
So with little more than a "prompted" Happy Birthday from my family this morning (Gee I feel old this morning. That's right, I'm 53 now), I was overjoyed to find a message wishing me well from this Forum when I first fired up the computer this morning.
Ok, I've had my whine for the day. (That's whine with an "h", not wine.) The worst thing is that I need to stay up 'til midnight to collect my boy from work.
The alone & dejected Rod from way Down Under.

Nah, 'cos my wife's away I think I'll just burn off some nitro tomorrow. Just got a new starter battery so I need to justify buying it.
Actually, I think I'll get myself a birthday cake & eat it all myself.

Glad to hear that a birthday message from CEF, can cheer you up! Sorry you're being left alone on your birthday. Although, it's better to be able to do what you want to , eat your cake and have it to! Then burn up some nitro....some one said, make a noise, a mess and a smell, all at the same time! I just spent my eldest son's 34 th birthday, yesterday, helping him tear off two to three layers of roof shingles from the house he just bought. Today, I'm going back to help re shingle the roof. Ugh. I'd much rather keep my feet on the ground and burn some nitro! H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y

Happy birthday Oldenginerod...I will soon have mine at 57 (or rather, 49 in duo-decimal system), and I will spend mine flying back from a business trip to China just to arrive home in already a near winter weather with endless rains... and I will definitely burn nitro that day, at least in my garage, to my joy and less to that of the neighbors.
Spend some early spring time Down Under with flying your bird instead of feeling old...(We do not stop playing with COX planes because we get old, but we get old if we stop playing with COX planes)

Re: It's a lonely old night!
I often have had the same feeling on my birthdays. I don't want anyone to fuss about it but on the other hand if no one remembers or "observes" it, that's kinda sad too. And you remember that you're a year older than a year ago...
Well, after all, it's just another day, and age is just a number, right?
Anyway, I hope you still had a happy birthday.

This comes from Lunch With Casey, a local kids program that ran from the mid 50s to the early 70s at noon.
That's nice to hear the forum cheers you up!

Happy Birthday, Rod. As I have one foot out the door, I could only read your top post. I'm sorry we didn't get to your Birthday before you mentioned it. But don't be bummed, every day you're still vertical is a good day in some way. You gotta know we love ya, man.
Take care,
Rusty

Happy Birthday Rod from across the ditch.
It kinda sneaks up on you this age thing. I turn 60 in a few days. Doesn't seem like I've been around sixty years but the calender says otherwise.
Sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet and make the most of doing what you want to while you can.

Hey, thanks everyone. First things first. This morning I need to help cook a barbecue for a "state titles" car show, so I'll just imagine it's for me.
Yeah, we had Casey Jones on the TV when I was a kid. I only hope Frosty the Snowman doesn't listen to his birthday song and take him to court.
(Uncanny similarity!!)
The suitably cheered Rod.

Happy Birthday Rod. 53? Your still a kid. I turned 78 last week and feel as good as I did at 38. You have a long way to go.
