My son found this Cox Corvette Stingray at a flea market and bought it for $15. Kind of nasty with a locked engine and a balky gear but with possibilities.

Disassembled it, boiled the engine in AF, came out like new, reassembled and we gassed her up. It started right now with just a twist of the wheel. Mark set it down on the driveway and it did a couple of donuts and died. Tried again and it took off like a scat cat off the driveway and into the weeds tumbling over and losing it's body in the process.

So we rigged a circular tether and tried again, round and round a couple of times until it tipped over. Enough fun, elapsed time about 15 minutes. I'm not a big tether car fan. The Baja Bug was better, geared down it was more exciting to watch as it tumbled over the lawn. (Many years ago.)

Cleaned up the Corvette, drained the tank and flushed some Remoil through it and set it up with all the other 15 minutes of fun cars.

C/L planes are so much more fun..........

Just revisiting your post and the Corvette looks like it has guide eyelets front and rear, meaning it was designed to run along a guide-wire in a straight line, like a drag race. I have heard if this.

It also had a bridle wire for running in a circle, there's holes in the side of the chassis.

We couldn't find a string long enough to do it justice in a straight line and wondered about the sudden stop at the end if we rigged it that way so we just let 'er rip un tethered. Later we did the circle tether. Outside of the anticipation, not a lot of fun.

Go to "Instruction Sheets" and look at the instructions for the Pontiac GTO. It describes how to rig a "shock line" to stop the car in a drag race.

Bob, you could have some real fun drag-racing those beauties! Just use some fishing-line threaded through the eyelets on the bottom of the cars. Not sure what scale those cars are.. but at 1:18th.. a scale quarter mile is about 75 feet long. At the end of the track, place a sheet of thin-smooth material so that the rear tires won't scrub/abrade if the engine keeps running. Maybe glue a strip of foam-rubber to the end of the sheet as a bumper.

I would use caution due to the very fragile plastic. My GT-40 R.I.P is now reduced to only a windshield. The spur gear is also very subject to failure especially if one tooth is already on it's way out.

Yes, maybe the Corvette vs. a Riveria vs. an Indy car. My 4 year old great grandson might be thrilled if he piloted one. Three of those Riveria's are mint but the blue one on the end is a candidate. Any of the open wheeled cars too except the Automites.

The OS FS 90 is giving me fits. Runs way to unadjustable rich with pressure. I'm tearing it down again, might be carb trouble or timing. Dunno. There are adjustments on that carb that I just don't understand, gotta find a manual..

At the local auction site there's an orange Cox Bug (VW Beetle "baja style") for 50€ plus shipping... Looks like it's never run, but no box nor manuals.

Been thinking about it for a while and it just sits there, re-listed every now and then.

You think I'd have 50 minutes of fun with it?

Sounds like the carb. Could be bad O rings also I could be that it way out of adjustment four strokes react to needle changes much quicker than a two stroke and don't take much to drown them. Try adjusting the idle mixture needle which is in the center of the throttle lever turn it in till it stops and open it one or two and a half turns from closed btw will it needle wide open? It don't sound like timing if it was it wouldn't of started early. (Bandit)

Thanks, I did not understand the function of that screw. I only pulled the barrel from the carburator, will take it down completely and find a manual for final adjustment.
