What kind of paint and procedure used on fuselage? Tested with fuel?

The paint is an automotive paint I bought to paint my WW2 jeep. It comes in a spray can, #34087 Lusterless Khaki. I got it from www.rapcoparts.com. I prepped the body using fine steel wool. so far it has held up well to the fuel.

I have a white Wen-Mac P-63 Kingcobra (British markings) which is very yellowed and I have been thinking about painting it as a dark green Russian variant. It really needs to be somewhat glossy, as flat will splotch out glossy as soon as castor oil gets on it. What I have in mind is like the following:

Tico, it's not like the real thing had a very uniform paint surface either



Note the places where the blue U.S. roundels were painted over and red stars added. Also some of the original markings on the nose have been covered and number 26 painted on.

Sorry for the thread Hijack, but the plane in the pic is actually a hijacked (or captured) aircraft in a museum here in Finland

Bob's plane could have "happened" also, as Germans painted the planes they captured in grey, and usually orange on the underside. That way the planes that were used for evaluation purposes were regognized and not shot down by "friendly" flak.

X2 - I was thinking the exact same thing.

Also, nice touch with just the single pilot.  Needs a windshield though, easy to fabricate and attach.  

I Took your advice and added a windshield. I think it was a nice touch. Now I just need to take it out and see if it will fly!!

When  I bought this PT-19 on ebay they sent me some old documents with it from 1973. In them I  found instructions for a one man
aircraft launcher. I made one up but have not tried it yet. This may be old news here but I thought it was cool!

Well, I flew the rebuilt PT19 today. Flew like the wind. The engine was running perfect. Then, I attempted a loop. I think that's what wrecked my first PT19  in the early 60's... On
the bright side I have another project!

Sorry to see that.  It's never good to see your hard work go to waste.  
Apparently loops are possible with a PT-19 but it seems that your "figure 9" is far more common.  Hope you can get back in the air.

Thanks for all the kind words. On the plus side I used a home made cox co pilot-launcher to take off. It worked well. I'll get her back together but she may be a wall hanger..I'll see how it goes.

Did you give the pilot a proper funeral?

Stuff happens, why I found out in 1973 that balsa flies better. I crashed my Sterling Beginner's Eindecker many times with minimal damage when flown over grass. OTOH, I had several rather expensive one shot flights with Cox ready-to-fly products, with only a donor engine to salvage.

Some build a similar sized balsa, foam or corrogated plastic PT-19 to relive the glory of .049 flight without rekitting a prized historic relic.

I took a look at the Pt19 this morning and I think Cosmetically she will go back together fine. A few parts missing but I think I can fill in with balsa. The engine runs so good I'm going to use it in my scratch built F8 Bearcat. It needs a little stronger engine. So the The PT19 will fly again via the Bearcat.

Glad to hear it will fly again, even if in 'the memory of'.

Check out under plans about 2/3 of the way down the page. I always thought the real deal was cute, but never thought of it as a good flier. Or, maybe I wasn't a good flier. Either way, mine provided an engine for a later model.

I believe that this is what Jim was reffering to. Built this a couple years ago to fly on the PT-19 day, but have yet to fly it.
