Prop Rod - resto to a runner

Oh, I hate to admit it. I lost my mind, and after swearing:

"baby Bees ONLY" then getting into TDs
"Cox ONLY" then getting into Wen Mac, Fox, McCoy
"glow ONLY" then getting into ignition
"no boxes" then getting into box resto

I have finally broken the "Airplanes ONLY" and got a Prop Rod.
its ugly, cracked, messy. A total RsvCox- Robert-Style resto needed.

Oddly, I found a good canopy. I can clean most of it, but that HUGE crack on the left, I dont yet know....

It has the mounting ears intact, a rariaty for these. Did you find the canopy at the Classic Tin Toy Factory. I found mine there.

These are really fun to clean up. Be careful of the axles, heat helps. Bob

Yes, classic tin for the canopy

axles actually roll! but needs good gentle cleaning, motor turns

no clue on how to attack the cracked body yet, but I'll get there.

A gift. Nothing short of heat free'd mine up. Heat, vice, drift punch, tapping hammer.

This was my worst. Notice no engine mounting ears. Body cracked and broken. It's amazing what a little body putty, paint, and repro decals can do.

fighting with the crack in the body, i can not get testors red to stick it together.

but ... in case any one wondered, the prop rod is not sitting on a shelf, I'm trying to get it there.

engine done, soaking body in Dawn Platinum, body clean

Looking great Charles. Unusual, Testors Red not sticking. It's my go-to for these repairs. The red and yellow in my picture are holding them together. They were diasters when I got them. Probably before pictures somewhere on the forum.

Do your have the canopy? You know where to find them.

yeah, another one followed me home.

I ordered stickers from the ebay feller, once I get them on, and maybe some clear coat, I will try to figure out the string, a weighted post, and a parking lot... Smile

Have at it Charles.

I found an old iron lamp base, perfect cone shape and heavy. Already came with a threaded hole in the middle. Just a bolt and a slip joint worked for me.

Someone on ebay is selling repro engine pods for these. There is a market. I see so many with the screw holes hogged out or broken off. I had to sand off what was left of mine and mill out a new engine mount out of wood.
