cold weather building

Re: cold weather building
Yes, it does feel wierd hey Mark. My biggest venture into RC aircraft was by building foamies. They are however fun to build, quick to build, as well as cheap to build. What I liked about them was what I mentioned above. My second plane was a delta pusher with elevons for advanced flying. I had barely mastered the trainer, ok, I still have some work to do, but I got about 10 flights from it before it was done. Total cost $1.25 in foam, and a few hours of time. I am not sure of your skill level of flying, but my first and still my favorite is the original 33" undercambered wing 'Blu-Baby Trainer'. What a fun aircraft!

Re: cold weather building
Here is what I am up to building. An RCM Air Car Trainer. It will be powered by an old MDS engine I have. This engine was originally on my airboat, then it started having problems that both I as well as other very knowledgeable locals could not figure out. It runs well, just that throttling is very very poor. All things including carburetor have been cleaned properly and well. But these are known to have problems running, as well as carburetor problems. But if I can even have it just idle in low and the air car rolls slowly, I will be happy until I can find another cheap well used motor. Should be fun to run. I am going to finish up the complete build, then disassemble and paint it, followed by a reassembly. I am going as original as possible, using an old 72mHz radio and receiver, battery pack, as per the plans. If all goes well this year, I was thinking of making skiis for next year......

Re: cold weather building
It's depron, the stuff is really easy to work with, use a flexible white glue, cut down CA hinges. The plane is a profile of the XP-51 copied from a book. Electrics are so easy and trouble free, i hadn't flipped a prop in years...but i think that's something i need to do this summer!!!
Re: cold weather building
OK OK OK Yes you do need to fire one up this summer LOL Had to look this stuff up , do you get yours from here .. http://www.rcfoam.com/balsa-wood-supplies---build-your-own-rc-balsa-model-airplane-kits/radio-control-hobby-shop/ I see they have Leading edge stock , someone here was saying they were have issues finding it ?? Maybe Kim ?
