Mystery glowhead

Another little mystery from my latest box of bits!

There were several Cox .049 glowheads, all standard but one, this one looks identical, and the Babe Bee wrench fits it normally.....

However, upon looking closer, it is considerably smaller than a normal head
The mystery head is on the left, the other is a standard Babe Bee

The difference is quite marked, as you can see here, the mystery one actually fits inside the standard threaded part..

Did Cox ever make a smaller bore than the .049, but externally the same size?

Any info much appreciated.

Wilf,

I think the smaller diameter heads are from the pre-bee engines, like the Thermal Hopper.

Looks like you came upon some nice finds.

Yeah, you have a Pre-1955 small diameter head. Does it light? I see nice working ones sell for around $10 on eBay, otherwise hang onto it as you will probably be getting an old engine sometime down the line.

Now that is interesting, all I need now is the engine to fit it! I don't think it's ever been used, glows very brightly

Same running price as any glowhead then?

I though they went for about 15-20.

15-20 for NIP ones, the last time I seen one sell that was nice but not in the package sold for around $10. If you were to sell it, perhaps make the starting bid $10-12

No, I shan't be selling it, I'm keeping it against the day I get a Thermal Hopper! (It will be a REAL antique by then!)

Thats a good thing to do!
Or space hopper maybe if you want better flying performance.
