Re: Buick Riviera
I finished my two Rivieras this morning, well as good as they are going to be. The "good" one, with stripes still needs some detailing. The other will be ran on a straight string tether. I may attempt to build a front grill/bumper for it and maybe a back, but those endeavors are usually beyond my ability to do an acceptable job.
Not pretty, but the one missing three of the four attachment points is ready to run. I used a wood tongue depressor cut to fit on the rear clip. Amazing that it has enough flex to hold the body straight.
BTW, do those hub caps just pry off?
I have had these for a couple of years and failed to notice that one has smaller front tires than the other. Wheels look the same. Wondering if they offered a dragster version?
At first I thought someone just shaved the front tires, but looking closely the sidewalls are different.
I thought about using the whitewalls you sent me on the good blue Buick, but I'm holding them now for one of the better creme ones pictured above.

Re: Buick Riviera
Bob, put the white walls on. Personally, improves the appearance big time.
Let me know and more will come your way. They really need to be installed.

I do not believe so. I removed the rubber tire from the one piece wheel on the 64 Riviera to evaluate the hub cap appearance.

Re: Buick Riviera
Bob, Yeah those hubcaps DO just pry off. They are a friction fit, but like everything else on a Cox product, you’ll get castor all over everything! I started with my thumbnail, then used a pair of scissors to “stab and pry” the plastic caps off, breaking the castor oil seal.
Yup, you do have a smaller size set of front tires on that one Riveria. Musta been a enterprising slot car racer to find a set of tires with the same ID as the Cox tire to fix those rims. On e bay, I saw some “super grip rear tires” listed as for Cox gas cars, but they sure looked like they were for a slot car, not the nitro powered ones.
PS: now that I’ve taken one wheelcover off, I can see it may be helpfull to warm the alum wheel with a hairdryer to soften the castor first! Probably the same way to remove a rubber tire off the rim.

Re: Buick Riviera
Thanks Rene, I'm going to give it a try. I want to swap good caps from the "bad" car.

Re: Buick Riviera
Well, try I did.
Not pretty, but I removed the worst of the four caps. Would not budge despite my best efforts so I heated it sightly with a heat gun and pried it off. Came apart in three pieces, all castor coated.
I glued everything back together with Testors red tube plastic cement (works great). Sprayed with Krylon aluminum and reinstalled. A long way from perfect but better than it was.
Thanks to Drcox's generosity I used his whitewall applications on the front wheels, doing a poor job in the process. I'm leaving the rear wheels and subsequent applications on my better Rivieras to the steadier hands and keener eyes of my son.
