Ryan Firebee Funnies and more
Kim’s most recent avatar of a Ryan Firebee sent me into a World WideWeb search for more information. I’ve not found a single model that even comes close to a Fly able model. The people who designed, built and maintained a multitude of variant FireBees had a very good sense of humor. I now know why AC Gilberts “Winged Thing” was such a spectacular failure. Not too many exist today and you’ll see why. Here are some Saturday Night Funnies for your enjoyment:

Funny and tragic Rene. I wonder how many billions were (and are) being wasted on projects destined to fail. But, ideas need to be tested and avenues to success found. I caught a glimpse of a FOD walk-down that brought back memories. Good to see all the humor the guys brought to their work.
I love youtube videos but I get lost in them whether it be music or seeing model planes being taken off and crashed.
Thanks for sharing.

Tell us more about the Gilbert Wing Thing. A childhood friend of mine had one, but i don't think any attempt to fly it was ever made. It had an .07 rigged as a pusher and a little plastic Rogallo sub-wing on the the nose of the main Rogallo wing and that's all I remember about it.

Here’s a TV advertisiment about them, I was like the kid in the car “Hey! It’s the WingThing!! Never bought one, mainly due to my very limited MRO budget was mostly for Cox parts and Gilberts were ah, rare and expensive.
