PT-19 Replica
I saw the thread about the PT-19 "Fly It If You Got It Day" and it made me realize I didn't got one anymore. Had a red & white one 50 years ago. Then found a drawing of the original online, and set about to build a balsa one.
This is the first all-flying tail I ever made. I hope it works. Covered with Monokote because I come from the RC world and I have lots of it. Weight is 6.7 oz.
Found a used Babe Bee and added a muffler. My old one didn't have an extension like this on the muffler, but it may keep the plane cleaner.
The only thing lacking now are pilots. I would like to find a pair of original Cox PT-19 pilots to do the flying. If anyone here can hook me up, please PM me.

Boy, if you can't buy it, build it! That's beautiful. Nicely done. I'm curious to hear how it flies compared with the Cox version. Thanks for sharing

Re: PT-19 Replica
Thanks for all the kind words! I am anxious to see how it flies, too. I'm not really qualified to compare to a Cox. I haven't flown one, or any CL model, in over 40 years. This version lacks the pop-apart features of the original. Maybe I should try something like a Skyray or Wizard first.

Wow...if I didn't know better, at first glance it appears as the Cox QZ Trainer. What a fantastic job of scratch building, especially the windscreen frames.

Re: PT-19 Replica
Oh, man, that thing is beautiful!
Can you elaborate a bit how you made the back-top fuselage, between the aft cockpit and the fin?
What thickness and density balsa did you use for the wing? What carving technique for the airfoil?

Re: PT-19 Replica
Thanks for the interest guys! The fuse top is sheeted with 1/16" balsa to the former behind the rear cockpit. From there back, it is strip planked with 3/32" x 1/4" balsa, and sanded to blend with the sheeting. The wing is a built up structure, not carved. Each panel consists of a 1/16" bottom sheet, cut to shape, and a full depth spar. Since the panel is so small, there are only 3 ribs; root, mid-span, and tip. 1/16 top sheeting. 1/4 sq. LE, sanded to shape.

Re: PT-19 Replica
With the new pilot aboard, weight is up to 6.8 oz. from 6.7. Going to have to have a discussion with him about his diet.

Re: PT-19 Replica
Wish I had your skill. I would just clear seal the balsa and admire the woodwork.
