That is a nice one! I have the exact same engine, It was my first Cox I purchased with my own money, I installed a metal backplate, no drag starter and a brass driveplate on mine to dress it up a bit. Your plastic plate is nice, mine while still useable started to warp on me.

Thanks.

I would like to keep a story like yours, the first engine I bought.... Smile Never going to get rid of it if I can help it. It has been tamed, with a throttle, muffler, slit cylinder snap starter, and a 6x3 prop.

I don't really see why most people dislike them. They match the engine, are much cheaper, and I think hold up quite well. I have nose-dived them wide open with no damage. Just my opinion, though.

While i think IC engines are nice, i think these are better....PulseJets

The larger one is a Zanin Z Jet, I think a Z-23 RC , i cant find the boxes of them but weighed one and compared to the manufacturers weights now, mine is from 1995 so may be different , the smaller jet is a DynaJet from years ago probably 1950s i bought it in about 1988 and it was ancient then

The diesel engine is just for scale ,on a 4 inch prop its the AE.1cc

There not really any more dangerous than any other engine, but they can set fire to things , they sure are noisy though , its the noise that makes them seem dangerous

i have another one of the Zanin ones on a 36 inch rc delta that i fly every now and then in the garden , there arent many people nearby so its quite safe, but there are no cars or other noise around and nobody localy has complained about me scaring there donkeys!

Ive destroyed my hearing with the car already , so the noise doesnt sound that bad to me, but it does echo round a bit

It's the glowing red tailpipe that makes people think they're dangerous! and, of course the fact that they melt if you don't release them very quickly!

Somebody tell me about those. What fuel, kerosene? A cigarette lighter and an air blast to crank? Power output? Fuel consumption rate?
It looks like a toy I'd like to play with.

The valves go if you run too long on the spot, but the zanin isnt as bad on the floor as the dynajet , theres videos on youtube of the z jets running for some time stationary, ive only run about a minute at a time stationary

When they overheat the valves loose there spring and jam open and the engine just stops, but sometimes one valve goes and then it runs rich with a fireball from the back for a second before it stops, usualy though it just pops and stops sudenly no missfire, just sudden silence

They run on petrol, or similar, to get the hang of running them the best to look for is a BMS jet, they are a more recent manufacture and come with a manual on formulating fuels , even down to how to get coloured smoke and flames from them

I run mine on 20% ether, 20% nitromethane, 60% toluene and a splash of acetone, it gives easier starting and more power, sometimes i use cheapo unleaded as the rest is hard to get in Bulgaria and i have nowhere to fly it in the UK, even though totaly legal no club lets you fly due to the noise.

To start, when the tank is full you need to get all bubbles out of the `blood bag` tanks, they go in a sealed rigid box, inside the box is also a empty bag connected to the combustion chamber pressure feed, the empty bag blows up and squashes the fuel to prevent engine stopping with g force, on the zanin there is a bubble seperator header tank on the front that removes bubbles, one bubble and it will stop without any missfire

On the dynajet i use a foot pump on the front and light the back with a blowlamp, the zanin has a sparkplug on a long pole that is poked up the tailpipe to make it start as you blow air in the front ( a heat proof glove is needed! )

I have about a litre of fuel in it and get a minute or two, not long!

Its not as bad on fuel when running on pure unleaded, i sometimes get 3 minutes, ive seen people saying 10 minutes on 1.5 litres but i have never got anything like this

Ive never seen a z jet for sale i think they were selling new about £400 back in 1995 , but dynajets and similar other pulsejets i have seen sell on ebay sometimes £30, other times upto £200 , it just seems to depend on the sale

They are quite easy to make though, my first pulsejet 12 inch long ,i made from plans , you needed some shim steel, brazing rods, aluminium sheet ,tin snips, hacksaw , a blowlamp and a drill.....and some epoxy to bond the air intake on the front! , it ran and just about flew a small control line model

Bigger they are the easier to start and easier to make

Thanks for the lesson. Considering the huge fuel consumption, I think I'll stick to what I know.
