Cox Engine of The Month
The Bunching of Engine Stuff
The Bunching of Engine Stuff
Got back into the shop after a few days away, and starting to outfit this cool wooden chest I got from Harbor Freight last week.
For a while now, I've been wanting to gather ALL the stuff needed to work on my little engines into a one-grab case, rather than having it scattered around the shop. Gonna "duplicate-buy" every gasket, wrench, poker-prober-piston setter-tubing-flusher widget I can think to throw in it. Probably drag it to S.M.A.L.L. and back without needing anything from it, but I'll be loaded for bear should a need arise.
So, the prep goes on...gonna get me a couple of those little flexible-neck reading LED's that clamp to the top of a book, and try to find that bucking bar I made in machine class back in the 70's for use as a base if I decide to smash a socket around a ball joint!!!
"Send me your poor, your decrepit, your castor-stuck, your combo-pliered finned, your broken drive pinned, your unloved back-drawer refugees...for I shall make them live again!"

That's a nice looking tool box / chest there, and does look like you are stocked up well.

I can’t believe you found that at Harbor Freight. I wonder if some proper mechanic dropped it by accident.
Looks good Kim!

Nifty Kim, I like the way that those drawers swallow up those compartmentalized plastic boxes. I love the things.

Kim do the drawers have stops?
A common theme of control line pilots is they are very frugal I mean cheap tight wads...sorry just a common fact that few would ever dispute
I have seen many variants of "field Boxes" or on site "tool Boxes" in fact frequently on forums like RCG or RCG or StuntHanger whatever are photo essays of the various bits of kit used and adapted vs the typical Tower Hobby or Great planes boxes
I digress.... lots of folks have adapted all sorts of Big Box store tool chests for field uses...some come with handles and wheels and some guys l make contraptions that look like a 1 yard wheelbarrow...grin
I intend to buy one or more of the HF tool chest (they are real inexpensive) for one of my shops measuring tools and one for my ammo reloading stuff (maybe two got a LOT of stuff)
If it is heavy loaded, as I suspect, and I needed to get it out of the van and over to the ready line...I certainly would use two roller blade W/bearing wheels, and some 1/2" EMC as a removable handle....
Caution...only ever out of the van and too the flight line on clear day....rain will destroy this box

Thanks Eric!!!! It's not too bad...though I do want to replace the handle on the top with a rope or strap anchored on each side to give myself a flat top work surface or stackable area if I need to pile stuff on.

Yeah, this thing will have the Good Life, spending it's days either in the shop or in the shelter of the van or camper.

for the lazy
I have played but not yet bought this item...from the well abused display model my opinion is it is way under priced for the quality

Sorry I missed your question Fred. Nope the drawers don't have stops, but that's not gonna be a problem for me.
Gonna hit the craft store for some anchors to put on it's sides, so I can remove the handle from the top, and pick the thing up with a rope.

Re: The Bunching of Engine Stuff
Just checked my recent Harbor Freight flyer.
Yup, next to the last page. $84.99. First page has a 20% off coupon for any one item.
Looks like I'm heading to HF tomorrow.

Happy Bunching !!!
$71 and change. Helped me clear a work bench. Not sure what I can use the narrow compartments in the top draws for, may just remove them.
Thanks a bunch for the heads-up.

Re: The Bunching of Engine Stuff
thought you have a fairly large selection of flat COX engine type tools...upper box thin divider drawers?

That is a thought Fred.
I did a page here on Cox wrenches but can't find it. Many different types, Cox and otherwise. I might do just that.
