I collect ready to fly c/line mostly with cox049......just acquired this little spitfire with testors "McCoy (?) 049.  The con rod keeps slipping off it's post......never had this with any 049 before....can't see there would be a tiny clip  to secure ?  Grateful for any information.

Is the “tank/reed valve” assembly fully inserted into the crankcase? They should fit up flush to each other, which would keep the con rod on the crankpin!

Thanks for that.....sort of what I suspected. I can push tank full on engine (not in plane) and rod stays on. As soon as I fit it into plane....it pings off again. Maybe there's something missing somewhere....I'll keep trying. Just a garage toy really as nowhere to fly these in UK nowadays.....except the odd private field.

I would guess that the plastic ridge around the outside of the reed enclosure on the tank is too worn to keep the tank snapped to the crankcase. I don't know how many times you can pull the tank off of the crankcase before it won't hold, but I bet it's not more than three or four times...

Problem solved.....many thanks for that. It's years since I had one of these type push-on tanks and had forgotten that it has to be pressed into place with some force. All good now.

I have quite a few Testors engines with the snap-in rear end and have never come across one that was loose yet. They seem fairly durable. Just a note on the Spitfire, if you intend to fly it, best to remove the undecarriage and have a friend launch it over grass. My experience with my P-40 Fly'em is that you will get little more than 30 seconds run from that tiny tank. You'll use most of that trying to get off the ground.
