Ambroid Kits Empty Ambroid Kits

Post  Cribbs74 Sun Nov 29, 2020 9:57 am

The Whipsaw thread got me curious as to what kits were put out by Ambroid. I know the Stuka Stunt and Ares was kitted by them, but I am curious as to what else they offered. Does anyone have a kit list or pictures?

They also produced the Scrapper. Here's one from the west coast http://flyinglines.org/c20.year1959.pdf

Ron, I've seen the Stills Stuka Stunt in action. A very good flying profile. I highly doubt that Ambroid used any wood of value for their version. Wood selections were generally poor for the majority of kit manufacturers back then and the wood was hard and heavy. Don Still flew his Stuka with a Fox .25 3 bolt backplate. I don't consider that engine a fire breather. It's a very anemic Fox .35 and shares almost the same power as a Fox .19 which was offered in the same case. I'm sure Don kept the weight down considerably. I know our club founder Harry who passed away had a beautiful scratch built one. I never got to see it fly. Harry suffered the typical ailments of old age as he was 87, he fell on two of his models the Stuka being one of them. So far no one has taken the time to repair it. His El Diablo however was put back. Harry was a master builder and his tissue skills surpassed anyone I've ever meant. Harry never painted a plane, he decorated it with pinstripes and stars from Jap tissue. We were able to soak the covering in thinner to remove Harry's stars and re dope them back onto the new covering.

Over on Barry Baxter's plan site, he lists the full size plans for the Super Whipsaw, as coming from an "Enterprise" kit of the same name. Don't know if Enterprise bought out the Ambroid line, they list the original kit sold for $2.95, no year though. The full size plans are from cad cam, and go for $14.00. He also lists the revised version of the "Super Whipsaw" called, "The Stinger" and has the plans for that kit as well. Eddy

Yeah I did a little research on the company, pretty old. Also learned that Ambroid is a combination of Amber and Celluloid hence the name.
