hello friends of the forum.
I have an idea in mind that I want to share with you so that you can give me your opinion.
searching in the web i came across a model designed by dave robelen called plymate.
model has 50 '' wingspan and is for .25 engine.
my idea is to reduce it by 50% (roughly 20-25 inch wing span)
to power it with a pee wee .020.
I know there is a reduced version of that model called plymate jr.
I would like to know if anyone ever made something like that and if so, what modifications were made and how the model finally flew.
The question is not specifically about this model but generally about reducing a model to a smaller scale.
big greetings to all.

Not a big issue, you can use the same plans, just print them out in reduced size. I would build it out of 1.5mm (1/16') balsa, wing sheeting out of 0.6mm (25 thou) balsa (or get rid of it altogether). Watch out the gear weight, use 3.7g servos and a small lipo battery. Cover with tissue or ultralight film. I found PeeWees work best on models below 150g (ca. 5oz) if you want decent performance.

I don't think it can be constructed out of plywood though in this scale, which, judging by the name, is the main selling point of this design.

Hi friends.
the model I am referring to is this ..
outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=7594
The idea is to build it in balsa wood as light as possible.
the pee wee is going to go with an external fuel tank.
I keep you posted on the progress of the project.

Hi Nico !, my advice is that if you want a acrobatic plane then the measurements for .020 are:
Wingspan: 630 mm
Fuselaje: 440 mm

If you want a sport relaxed flight for .020 and with that model aircraft that you present, then:
Wingspan: 730/750 mm
Fuselaje: 540/560 mm
Here you can see my AMA PT, powered by a Cox Tee Dee .020 r / c (with a 630 mm wingspan and 440 mm fuselaje) Very Happy

Hi Eric, because this model is the AMA PT, originally for a .010 engine, because I made two, one orange and the other blue.
Orange has .010 and blue has .020.
The orange has two channels (ailerons and elevator) the blue has three channels, ailerons, engine and elevator)
you can see the construction here:

That's the Playmate, not Plymate Very Happy Apparently there are so many model designs out there that you can make a random typo and still end up with an existing model name  Laughing

Hi nico, That 20" span Jr. version looks to be perfect for the PeeWee .020 given today's feather-weight nano RC systems. You mentioned an external fuel tank for the PeeWee. One of our Cox parts suppliers and CEF member "Cox International" stocks a .020 backplate for use with an external fuel delivery. It's a modern 3D-printed item that comes with everything you need for converting the back-end. In stk. (7 avail.) as of this post.

L.M. Cox also made a .020 product-engine (reed-valve induction) having a plastic backplate/carb. (NVA, venturi/reed-holder) allowing an external fuel-delivery. They were much less common than the .049 version; known as the "horseshoe backplate".. but the .020 version was similar.. just smaller. It was featured in Cox's PT20 Army Flight Trainer.

Some photos..

Nice looking little model.. isn't it?  Very Happy There could be other Cox RTF .020 powered models that had external fuel-cells.. but I don't have any further info. There "is" the Cox "Sky-Copter".. (a Free-Flight model) which also came with a .020 reed-valve engine equipped with a special/unique back-end/fuel-system.

You could possibly modify if you could find one. They were a popular model.

hello everyone ... sorry for the delay.
Regarding the external tank ... unfortunately where I live it is extremely difficult to access those accessories like the one shown by roddie ..
I have a 020 tank that has a hole through which to pass a fuel line.
last weekend I adjusted the plans to the dimensions suggested by mauricio. Present the engine on the plane and it seems to fit like a glove.
I leave you a photo that I take of it.
I will keep you posted on the progress.
