Guillows Kits

Guillows Kits
i watch eBay, way too much... for kits.
I've noticed so many Guillows kits with, well, .... very high prices.
so I looked on their website to find? they have released MOST of their collection, higher prices, but laser cut.
I do not know why I'd spend $50-ish for an old kit, when I could get the new one for $35-ish - laser cut.
Just sharing the link

Re: Guillows Kits
I haven't purchased any of their laser cut kits, but in general I do prefer the older style of kits. With the new laser cutting technology they tend to make as much as they out of each sheet of balsa, and thus treat the balsa as if it was homogeneous material independent on the grain direction. That means that the parts can have a strange grain direction and therefore be very weak. This method would be okay for cutting parts from plywood, but not for balsa parts. In some kits the stringers are no longer made in the right way, i.e. they just cut them out of the same soft balsa sheet as the rest. They then bend and twist as they are released from the balsa, plus you have to form the wing leading and trailing edges your self etc.
The soot from the laser cutting is another issue, it can affect the adhesion of the glue and it doesn't look nice on see-through structures.
Just my two cents, perhaps I'm simply getting to old...

Re: Guillows Kits
Anyone here have a copy of the Avenger plansheet? Is like to do a study on it before commiting to trying to convert a kit to CL flying. I'm thinking a tankless Pee Wee, 1/4 oz external tank, and 27 foot lines.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Guillows Kits
Thanks much, Levent.
I guess I should have been more specific...kit #506.
It is still currently in production, so plans sites shouldn't have a copy yet. I'll take a look at the one you indicate to see how it will scale up to 21"-23" WS.
