On the Road Again...And...a Wild Ride Home...

Except for the run to Mayflower, Arkansas for Summer S.M.A.L.L., the camper has been shamefully parked in it's spot this year.
I thought it was time to put some miles on my little home-on-wheels, and so, headed up to celebrate "National Model Aviation Day" with the guys and gals of "Sentral Illinois Radio Society", out in the prairies (cornfields, actually) near McClean, Illinois.
These fine folks allowed me a camping spot on the field, so I was ready on-scene for the next day's fun. which had a REALLY nice turn-out.
I got to meet John Cralley, Admin of the Annual Worldwide Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon Facebook Page. The SIRS club has a nice circle for C/L, and we did our best to make good use of it...putting in a bunch of flights through the day. Many of those in attendance had never seen a control line model in flight, so we hammed it up. I put up my best Hillbilly Free-Style flying and, amazingly, managed to miss the ground the entire day.
John also got in a flight with his electric-powered S-1 Ringmaster, utilizing his "Control Line Chair" that allows him to stay seated while turning with his plane. He got in a good flight, along with a young fellow whose name I've forgotten, who got some "duel instruction" flying John's plane while I ran around next to him, sharing the flight handle.
He did a fine job, though the turning eventually got to him, so he took a break while I landed the Ringmaster. I think he had fun!

Friday Evening:
Shutting down for the evening, and enjoying the sudden wave of cool air.

I was gifted this Sig Banshee by S.R.I.S. member Randy Doss. It belonged to his younger brother, who passed away some years ago. I was able to get it running, so Randy got to see his brother's plane fly.

Today:
Everybody is packed up and ready to head for Muncie!!!

That's so cool, Kim!
I especially liked seeing the older gentleman still "flying by the seat of his pants." It gives me personal hope for 15-20 years from now!
The OV-10 Bronco is a BEAST! The bipe is beautiful.
Any news on SMALL Fall 2021 dates?

Midwest did a similar thing on the ME-109 in which they would swing the arms of the Swastika the other direction so that it wasn't the offensive symbol. I was just on vacation and I passed a bank that had a Swastika insignia on each of it's window lintels. Curiosity got the best of me and I discovered that it was a symbol of good fortune and Hitler essentially used it for all the wrong reasons.

I knew it had been used as such in ancient times, but misappropriated by Hitler. It can't be exhibited in Germany even today -- an example is on scale RC aircraft, the ME 109 and FW 190 in particular, it has been replaced on the fin with a shield or other insignia. US competitors in Germany must cover swastikas on their planes with a piece of tape.

Thank You Kim ,It warms me to see your out there having fun with some of the buds. Nice gesture (gifted) Banshee is that a Fox slant plug ? 
That's some really Big corn and placed in uniform row ! You lose a plane out there it is Gone ! 
the field was in really nice shape looks like and some Impressive Planes to boot

Put in a few flights with the Butterfly yesterday evening. I'm camped at the south end of the AMA's facility, and fairly close to a small, single runway airport just outside the property line.
Ran a couple tanks through this old moterglider, and experienced my first "Ejected Glowplug"! With the price of these things, I GOT to remember to check their tightness before I fly!
Spent some time in the Museum:
So now, time to pack up this wagon and head for Dayton.

Hey, you're welcome Eric!
Yeah, the Fox is a slant-plug type, and I couldn't get just a whole bunch of power from it, so I kept the flight pretty gentle. If I can get it to wind up a little tighter, I'm gonna put some of my little key fob cameras on it, and make some flying videos for Randy.
Yes, John is really hanging in there. I wished I could have helped him more but, like all of us, he has a "system", so I just stood by and helped when I could. That's his son launching for him.
The corn is crazy tall, and a guy would probably have to use a drone to locate a downed airplane. I didn't manage to get the Butterfly out while I was there, and would have kept that sucker in CLOSE if I'd flown it!
I went ahead and joined the SIRS Club, and plan to revisit them again before winter.

Love all the pictures Kim, but I'm especially attracted to this little guy.
Wow, never saw a glow plug depart in the air. You do enough flying and sooner or later your going to encounter everything.
X-2 on the Bronco. Third picture down is a Field of Dreams moment as it comes over the corn.

You probably have the only picture of a plug being ejected in flight in the entire modeling world. A true Ripley's Believe It or Not event.

OhMyGosh! what a beautiful flying field!.. We don't have that kind of greenery out here. I see the circle for the U-control planes.
That ringmaster looks like fun. I'm getting an itch to do a fairly large U-control. actually anything to start again.

The Memphis Belle at the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio

Today, I was finally able to visit the "Memphis Belle" exhibit at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. It was just a few months away from completion during my last visit a few years ago.
The last time I saw this historic bomber in the 1990's, it was parked under an open-sided fiberglass "umbrella" on Memphis' "Mud Island":
The B-17 is now safe from the hordes of nesting starlings that took advantage of it being parked semi-outside.
The USAF exhibit is beautiful, and finally, the Belle has an appropriate place for visitors to see her. The B-17 is suspended about 10 feet above the floor, with landing gear retracted and bomb bay doors open, and with internal lights showing off its features. The kiosk and displays surrounding the bomber are equally fantastic.

So glad to see the Memphis Bell is safe and sound in a real museum now. Hard to believe it made 25 missions and survived.

For years she was on a pedestal in Memphis Tennessee, I would visit her every now and then when I was stationed there in the 1960's.

Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress I have an rc model its Not the Memphis Belle But very fun to drive with fpv system

I took a picture a few years back at the museum. It really resonated with me. It appears to be the original drawing and has quote on it from the person modeled in the picture.

Here’s the one they used in the film, ready for take-off in Duxton, summer 2014. This one was painted to look like the original Memphis Belle, and after the film was done, the left side was restored, and the right side left as it was in the film.
We were there to see it take off, I think there was a parade or something in London that day, or a rehearsal for one, not sure. Soon after a P-51 took off too, and a couple of others.
The museum in Duxton is a Heaven for airplane nerds. I think I could live there, I’d be happy to just sweep the floors

It’s great that they keep these birds flying, and even greater that the public can see the work areas. Too bad we only had one day to spend there.

Turning the pages at breakfast this morning of the latest issue of Air Classics I found this:
