Cox Engine of The Month
Cox Ranger V .049

Cox Ranger V .049
This popped up on ebay first as a "used" engine for $49 with a no sale. Then as a "new" engine for $75. Same engine, same seller. I liked the presentation (NIB) but not the price, so I contacted the seller and told him I would be a buyer at his original forty nine dollar price. He replied with an offer of $49 which I accepted. Looks like a Dragonfly boxed for inclusion with some of their plastic flyers.
Ranger V .049 (0.8 cm³)
Manufactured in 1987-1988 (#29411, ECJ #78)
The Ranger V was used as a product engine for many R/C models distributed by Cox. These models were usually made in China from Styrofoam and came almost ready to fly with these engines. The engines themselves were made in the USA.
This Ranger V product engine was intended to be a replacement for the "Typhoon" R/C model. It came in a cardboard box with spinner, stub screw and two of the black oxide Cox tools. It is similar to the Dragonfly engine which was sold as a hobby engine.

Wow, is that ever cool. Another I had not known about, nor did I know they came like that. So, was this sold as a stand alone engine, or did this come from a kit from back then?
