APC electric prop use

APC electric prop use
Hypothetically speaking...what APC electric props should a guy I know try on his TeeDee and other .049s? He always wears Kevlar long sleeve shirts and a welding helmet.

Re: APC electric prop use
In general, electric rated props may not have the durability to withstand the impulse vibrations caused by the detonation of fuel in internal combustion engines. Thus, it is possible for the blades to fail prematurely from cyclic fatigue and break off.
So, it always makes sense to only use props rated for engines.
However, some have been trying Bullnose props that seem similar to glow engine props in sturdiness, and claim success. However, I have no experience in using them.
YMMV (your mileage may vary).

Re: APC electric prop use
I had an electric prop drop all its 3 blades on a 020 TeeDee. It happened mid-air so luckily no harm was caused. Poor 020 unloaded into a high pich 30k+ run before it gulped all fuel. With a 049 on the ground it could have ended with serious bodily harm.
Brad aka 1/2A Nut uses bulls eye hub electric props chopping some of the blade length and airfoil core width by sanding, and cranks his TeeDees above 30k with no problem.
Since my experience with the 020 throwing the blades, I avoid using electric props, though.

Re: APC electric prop use
I have used the APC Thin Electric Prop on my Cox Texaco Engine using 5% nitro.
The engine runs at about 4,000 RPMs.
It's not a screamer like any of the Tee Dee or Bee engines.
Slower rpm with a good size prop for endurance engine run.
I did try the APC 8x4 Slowfly prop and on the 4th run it broke in two the air, just a little after launch.
The hub on the slowfly was a little weak to start off with.
I copied what the guy that usually wins the duration event with the setup he uses.
Just one thing to remember, if you think that you hit the prop with the ground with that electric prop at any time, change it!
It's not worth injuring yourself and others around you!
All my other engines I use only props for combustion engines.
