0.010 and 0.020 CL or R/C Kit suggestions?

Right now I'm thinking of scaling down my skyray 35 plans.

In addition to the models suggested by others, I would recommend, for an RC plane, the Sharkface, that was available on ebay a few years ago, and though designed primarily for a 020 engine, my 010 Tee Dee pulls it with authority.






I prepared its bulkhead with mounting screw patterns meeting the 010 an 020 Tee Dee-s both, for the plane's versatility. The holes at the bottom were designed as lead-outs for the fuel line and filling line, but made these lines rather vulnerable at landing without a landing gear, so I finally led the lines out on the fuselage sides.

I see the exhaust port orientation of your 010 is sideways, but the ports on the 020 may be orientated near-parallel with the crankshaft. In such a position the 020-s and 010-s too are prone to self destruction by their hot flue gases melting the red delrin tank. This is especially true with 30% nitro in the fuel and flying on a hot day...been there, seen that, done that...

As a remedy I apply a piece of aluminum shield cut from a beer can and tuck its tabs between the bulkhead and tank such that the shield overhangs the tank where it is hit by the hot gases. The thin air gap - constantly flushed by the propeller blast -  between the shield and the tank will prevent the extreme heat from damaging the tank.







I could also give advise on a larger 020 application like my Roaring 20 that I power with a 020 in RC service...a real fun, antique design...too bad its kits are all gone from the market, but Outerzone may still offer the plans..

Here's a quick and dirty control line for .020 .  Two things of interest are the longer inboard wing to compensate for line weight and the diamond airfoil.  It was my first scratch build as a kid. Outerzone plan:  Little Gem

The Dimond wing is cool!!! I was reading an older (for this young buck), aero modeling magazine from the 1950s it spoke to the different options for compensating for line weight, and the Differential lift that occurs between the faster airflow out wing vs the inboard one.  It had a clever statement that noted, tip weight, rudder offset, engine offset are options to tune your model, however use of all at once will yield poor results.  Or something to that effect.

That combat wing sure looks exciting.  Man I'll need to build some of all these to be happy now lol.

To get started I ordered this kit off ebay, couldn't say know for the price. I think an 0.020 will work, we shall see. It's called the r03-stik
