michaelherbst1 wrote:Good day everybody,
The attached photos show the individual parts of the TAPLIN TWIN before processing and after processing. The ball bearings had to be replaced. I made new compression toggles and also had to replace some 6BA screws. The engine has good compression and the counter pistons work well. I have to say: a very good, precise construction of English engineering.
Best regards
Michael
Great picture Michael, helps to understand this unique engine.
I have that same .15 Taifun Hurrikan. Just happened to be enjoying a Ginger Ale that compliments it.

aka R-6 used on many british engines in the classic era. R-4 often used as front bearings.

Taplin Twin gaskets
Does anybody know where I can purchase Taplin Twin gasket sets? I am looking for the crankcase end cover gaskets.

Re: TAPLIN TWIN 7ccm
Well the example shown is the Mk1 Taplin.....of 7cc which used ED Hunter 3.46 piston cylinder units (actually supplied to Taplins by ED under subcontract....machined slightly differently obviously)...and which haven't been produced since the early 60s...so your chance of finding original Taplin gaskets is about the same as finding a snowball in hell.....However-I'm guessing that an ED Hunter backplate would have the same dimensions as the Taplin one-in which case there are a couple of Ebay vendors who offer after market gasket sets for a whole range of diesel and glow engines, both 2-stroke and 4-stroke...one is 'werkelstatt' the other is 'the-old-engine' and yes the ED Hunter is among the gasket sets offered....with both cylinder base and crankcase backplate gasket in the set Well worth a browse of both vendor's listings....
If you are seeking one for a Mk2 or Mk3 you should still be OK as though the Mk III had the capacity increased to 8cc, this was done by increasing the bore not the stroke which remained the same at 0.625"....so hopefully this would mean the backplate dimensions remain unchanged from the Mk1.....in which case a hunter gasket should still fit.....
