CO2 Engine
CO2 Engine
Hi
I got this for free at an estate sale. Does anybody know who made this CO2 engine? The tubing is loose and the filling adapter is missing
I would like to fix it. Any idea where to get the tubing and a filling adapter? The tubing seems to be a 1mm OD or less copper. I have a Gasparin G28 that has aluminum tubing. I got it from the Czech vendor Old Engine Models. He does not list any tubing on his website.
Thanks. I think the engine is from the 70's or 80's.

Re: CO2 Engine
Its a UK made Humbrol aka 'Shark' CO2 motor-contemporary with the better known UK Telco...and about the same size. As for tubing-hard to find.

Re: CO2 Engine
Thanks!
It is interesting technology. I wonder where I could get 1mm or less copper tubing and a filling valve.. I could make it run again.

Re: CO2 Engine
You have a couple of options-Telco tubing occasionally (and I mean occasionally-its not common!) appears on Ebay....it was a standard Telco spare (as were various other parts) and will fit the Shark/Humbrol unit. The filler valve is another story-finding an original is going to be a needle in haystack job....but again a Telco unit will work ....if you can find one. The original filler is a brass turning-into which the aluminium filler spigot screws, and into the other end the copper gas line is soldered....and the remaining end of the copper line is soldered into the lid of the tank. Of course there is also an internal ball valve inside the unit as well-but this is immaterial to the discussion as you would not normally open the unit.
The catch-such as it is-is that the male filler spigots are a close match for the female receptacle on the charging gun-so there is no guarantee that filler valve brand 'X' will mate with charging gun brand 'Y'....so if you were to fit a Telco filler valve, I would advise getting hold of a Telco charging gun. Now the other option would be to check out this guy:
http://www.old-engine-model.com/en/k266.gasparin-co2-motory/ and enquire with him-explaining your situation-and seeing if he can supply a Gasparin filler valve-preferably with tubing fitted- as a spare part. You would-if successful then be advised to get a matching filler unit-of which he can offer a number of options-all shown on the website.

Re: CO2 Engine
Thanks for the detailed response. I have dealt with http://www.old-engine-model.com/en/k266.gasparin-co2-motory and have bought two small CO2 engines from him. Jiri has been great and I think combining the filler unit with tube to the Humbrol engine is the way to go.
I will look for the Telco tubing and keep the engine around as a long term project.
