Autogiro-Free Flight

Thanks Roddie, We’ll see how it goes!!!….There’s and handful of control line Autogiro’s in OZ including a couple by the same designer of the one I’m building….. So they have have been popular at one time or other as well….. With your design skills I’m sure you could produce a very nice AG….Maybe your interest will rekindle?…..Would like to see what you’re thinking

Thanks for pointing out the link Roddie, I missed it first time around …. Nice innovation on your AG!!….Great job on dreaming it up from scratch….  Lots of adjustments possible, Always a good thing on any model IMO….The video on Pg 3 shows how possible CL - AG’s can be…

Part of this experiment is using Duco cement thinned with acetone as a dope to seal and to apply the trim on the fuse….Seems to work just fine in this application …. however wouldn’t be fuel proof since it is nitrate based…,The rotor is just spray paint..

First outing for the Sure Fire AG was a Backfire lol… Three short flights and rolls pretty strong to the right…. I think I have the rotor blade spars TOO floppy…. One of the photos shows how much that side was flexing (and loosing lift)…..Plus it was a little breezy… I’ll repair and stiffen the spars a little before next try…. The good thing about rubber power though, It’s cheap to experiment with…

Yes Sir, You have me figured out!! LOL!!!…. Tissue trim works good for me on small models…. Cheap, light, and easily repairable….Steps on how I generally produce these…

A piece of tracing paper over the plan to draw the shape I want for side and top view…

Tissue folded in half (to produce two pieces mirror image if needed) and placed inside a folded newspaper …

The drawing is taped to the top of the folded newspaper/tissue stack….

Cut thru it all on a sheet of glass…. The glass preserves the knife’s tip…. The layers of newspaper prevent the knife from catching and tearing the tissue ….

The trim pieces are attached by flowing thinner thru them on the pre doped surface… A couple of thin coats of dope  on top to seal…
