Indexing COX cylinders

Indexing COX cylinders
I am about to receive a brand new red postage backplate reedie, and the seller sent me photos in advance for me to identify if a No1 or No2 cylinder is mounted on it.
To my surprise, no number is stamped on the cylinder.
Based on various features like the yellow plastic knob on the NV, that discontinued in April 1964, this is a 60+ years old engine..
Does it mean only engines younger than ~60 years carry the indexing Number on the cylinder?

Re: Indexing COX cylinders
This is a thin wall a Old thin-walled cylinder those have the taper inside cylinder And possibly has two bypasses its must be a no 1 If so it is a very good cylinder similar with the golden bee black widow I think sometimes the 1 is almost invisible on old thin cylinder the steped one has number in a difrent place Sometimes they don't exist like a cylinder with the screen mesh Once I removed the screen I We can see the spot welds and i saw this small opening that I have rarely seen this cylinder has no SPI at all the cylinder in comparison. Wit a normal ex port has almost no sub piston induction, a very small opening Almost invisible but you can still see it with a light in the engine crankcase

Re: Indexing COX cylinders
Thanks, David,
yes, I checked in the COX Model Engine Handbook by its photos before I bought it, and this engine with the same needle valve and exhaust deflector was by definition built with No1 cylinder i.e 2 bypass ports, and I am pursuing these engines particularly because of their excellent performance and taper-bore related longevity.
It will take some day before I get it, but can't wait "looking into the mouth of the gift horse" (I bought this new engine together with a blister-pack brand new early Babe Bee for 70€ plus shipping) .
More to come when received.

Yes Eric, I am hopeful this turns out to be a No1 cylinder...Those are the ones that I beef up with my home made exhaust throttle and Kamtechnik head, to spin props above 20k when unloading in the air...

Re: Indexing COX cylinders
Yes it's true that this no.1 model is particularly efficient in the form of a reed valve engine I had installed this model of cylinder on a more recent crankcase with silencer and 8cc stunt tank For years he was my best engine for my ez bee the engine I give it to an old friend, he probably use it for years And it must surely still work todaybalogh wrote:Yes Eric, I am hopeful this turns out to be a No1 cylinder...Those are the ones that I beef up with my home made exhaust throttle and Kamtechnik head, to spin props above 20k when unloading in the air...
