Not to beat a dead horse, but I wanted to do a sanity check and see if I was losing it. Perhaps all #3's are not created equal. It wouldn't surprise me.

The reason I was curious is that besides #4/5 cylinders #1/3 are my second favorite. I usually snap them up when I see them.

Anyway I had a #3 on a black widow....

ok.. that's a dual-bypass ported SPI piston/cylinder set there.. are they usually non-SPI.. or single-port... or both? This is something I'm just learning about.  Huh...

Yours looks like one of the #3s that may have
come on the Venom, Ron. The old thin wall doesn't
have the teeth of the thick walled one, I know. No sub-
induction, single bypass, no taper.
I'm going to try the old #3 on a nos BabeBee assy
I bought years ago. (I added the incorrect needle)

There are a lot of different cylinders. Best bet would be to visit the Wikipedia page. I don't think it's completely accurate, but it will give you an idea.

The number 3 seems to have been used on many different cylinders so there really is no telling exactly what the cylinder porting is by just the number.

And this from Joe Klause(to add to the confusion).
No.3. A two bypass cylinder that initially did not have the bottom of the exhaust ports milled low enough to provide sub-piston induction. Later, the exhaust milling permitted sub-piston induction, and the outside was ground for use with an exhaust-restrictor type throttle, and the top fin was milled.

That's too funny...  lol! 

The picture I posted above is a #3 dual bypass, SPI and not ground for an exhaust throttle.

I think Jacob is right the #3 can be just about anything.

3 (three; /ˈθriː/) is a number, numeral, and glyph. It is the natural number following 2 and preceding 4.

edit: I just figured it out. The thinking at Cox may have been-It's not a #1 or #2, and definitly
not a #4 or #5........stamp a 3 on 'em. lol!
