You don't need any electric starters, the conquests are really user friendly engines, just prime until a little wet, set the throttle near idle and flip, should fire right up. Deburr the prop or use a glove.
If it doesn't start then something is wrong. Prime it a little wet and it will start if you have a good glowdriver. The handheld ones are not very good, the batteries have to be absolutely fully charged to be anywhere near the required voltage of 1.5V. The average battery voltage of 1.2V is not enough for a little wet engine...

Easy for you to say
Re: Cox Conquest .15
You'll also need full castor fuel, the synthetic stuff is no good on old-school engines...

Yes I see the air bubble, that's from sitting overnight.
I think I need a better glow plug clip, then the stock Cox clip.

When in doubt, alligator clips.
Any chance you wound up with a 2.0v glowplug? Used to make those, for wet cell batteries. Course that was back in the day, might be hard to find one nowadays, even if you were looking.

The battery tray and clip from Bernie works well:

I'll post a pic what I made. I can switch it from 1.5V to 3V. 2 D cells don't last really long when trying to get an engine to run though.
Re: Cox Conquest .15
2 D cells should last a few months, depending on how much you fly, you can also use rechargable batteries if you prefer. The trick is to not have the battery connected all time. Prime and turn the engine over until it feels right first, and only then do you connect the battery, it should fire right up or something is wrong.

Re: Cox Conquest .15
Ya you said that. BUT how do I know what "feels right"? I tried to get it to fire on prime only and no go, so I think my batteries were shot or my connection was bad.
Re: Cox Conquest .15
It feels a bit wet but not sloppy and the compression feels a bit more because feel is tanking up space in the combustion chamber.WingingIt74 wrote:Ya you said that. Re: Cox Conquest .15
It was just getting sloppy. Not sure what's up. Directions say 5 turns, but to me that seems to much, but I couldn't get it to run on 3.5 turns either.
Re: Cox Conquest .15
You'll need a good battery and connection to start an engine, sounds like a combination of too much fuel and not enough power to the glow plug.

Is your glow plug the correct length?

as per MECOA, yes.

Re: Cox Conquest .15
Long reach is a good match to the thread length in the head, but it should run on any glow plug length anyway.

Re: Cox Conquest .15
I think your exhaust manifold is upside down. Per the head and no spinner, it was a RC version converted. MECOA has most of those parts for this engine available I believe.

I wonder what the serial number means. Yours is 1002043 and mine is 2000203. Can there be that many out there?
Re: Cox Conquest .15
per wikipedia:
Cox Conquest .15 (Cat# 2800 Manufactured 1976-1978)
I would guess yours is a 1976 and mine is a 1977.

Re: Cox Conquest .15
I think the cylinder and piston are shot. It won't hold compression and it hisses past into the exhaust.
