As above so it looks like a spot of building may get done this weekend
If she's really lucky I may even spend some time with whats'er name............... Affraid or WOW!
So
Thanks to that Nice Man Bastiaan and spured on by Young Kims BOT I now have

one o dem

The South East England Monsoon of 2012 continues....... Pictu134

The object of the current (daft) exercise is to get the Old Timer to rise off ground.
When it was lekky powered it had 110 watts with which it fairly lePt off the ground with.
Before putting a 'proper' power source in it I experimented with the throttle and it would ROG at slightly less than
half and not stall. I concluded that it would ROG at around 65 watts or less.
I reckon the Killa B'stard will easily top 55 watts that will be strapped to the fron instead of the much defunct
Tsuredee.
Obviously I will attempt to get it up (ooooer Madam) under it's own power but i want to 'make sure' hence the pod.
What would you lot stick atop the pod?
I fancy it's got to be a reed because of mounting easier starting etc.
I was thinking Texaco, Matts Christmas Bee or Black Widow?

I used to fly a Goldberg Gentle Lady with a Black Widow on a Cox pod. I used Cox 25% fuel and a MAS 6X3 prop. It climbed alright but I doubt it would ROG. I would guess the glider to be about 78" wing span and around 20+ ounces with the engine/pod. I bet if you kept the BOT light and used your new engine with a 6X2 prop you could get the needed thrust without wasting a lot of prop speed on a slow glider. A 5.5X2.5 might even be a good option. Even if it won't ROG it should still do well with a light hand launch.

Good luck and have fun,

Bob

Ooops! Sorry, I just saw you are talking about the Old Timer. I had Bird of Time on the Brain. The prop choices still might be worthy of consideration.

Sorry Bob I shoulda qualified... Mine is an ex Multiplex Hummel (the BOT is KIMs) hence Old Timer it's 55in W/S, very low wing loading and AUW of about 17oz. It hand launches fine but I really want it to ROG under power which is why it will have the 2 engines.
One one front and t'other on the pod.

I'm probably just going to use Bernies yellow wobblemeister 5x3.
I may have a go a redilling them but prob not.
So far all the Cox props I've come across have been at least as bad.

Cox made a pod for the Tee Dee. It had an integral fuel tank. You could probably slip a Norvel Big Mig .061 in there to get a little extra oomph to get things motivated.

I'm fairly sure it would Ron but you know I'm not blessed with TD starting type patience or ability come to that.
And when the K B' is already spinning up front the name of the game will be quick starting.
I'm kinda thinking about a Hornet starter for the future but don't tell Indra..

Very Happy

Yes, please. I speak the Southern U.S. dialect of redneck but understand most other dialects quite well.
