2 ha'penny's in a penny, 2 farthings in a ha'penny

Hi John,
You missed guineas, (a pound and a shilling). I spent most of ’59 and ’60 working as a US contractor in Lincs (we were cluttering your countryside with Thor missiles at that time). The men’s clothing stores all had their prices posted in guineas. I thought it odd and wondered why. But in hindsight we in the US do the same. Our gasoline (petrol) is always priced with a nine tenths of a cent at the end, e.g. $3.179. We are so used to it that we don’t even see it. So I guess it was with guineas vs. pounds. It puts a spin on the actual price.

That's cos I've only got 1 engine holder and 1 camera holder.
I need to get an itegrated n/v fiddler as well.........! Very Happy

Still don't know about price yet Phill, I'm waiting on my mate Phil to come back to me on that.
I told him a dozen of each which should drop the price a bit.
Bear in mind the last Kavan (plastic one) to go on Fleabay was 23 bucks/they'll be cheaper than that.

Realize that making these needles and threads are quite expensive. For instance, Fred Baldwin the designer and machinist of the Shuriken engine made his own versions of the 128 TPI needle valves. I've spoken to Fred on many occasions. This is in reference to the picture of the engine in my Avatar. Some of these engines were selling for over $250 in the early 1990's. That was a lot of money back then for an engine and especially for a 1/2A. There is several reasons for this. For those that don't know Fred, he was an Indy car engine and design engineer with a complete machinist background in the production of these engines. Back in the 90's for instance, Fred stated that a handful of crankshafts for the Shuriken plus the heat treating required for them was $3000. His crankshafts obviously went along with larger parts which were also being done at the same time. Fred stated all of this couldn't of been done by itself as the cost was would be too much. Fred designed and built this engine for the love of what he did and the hobby and more than likely didn't turn a profit.

Kirn Kraft at one point wouldn't even sell him the needle valves and spraybars he was using and this had Fred producing his own. Back then the taps and dies to produce them cost him $600. These are specialized items and typically aren't purchased in small lots. In order to reproduce these items now almost 30 yrs later seems almost impractical as the costs outweighs the return. I'm not suggesting it's impossible, it just seems like we've all missed the boat on the equipment which was once available to us. I think at this point, it would be much easier to use a remote needle which can be readily had and just use a sprinkler set up into the venturi. I stated earlier on that I would provide simple means and pictures of how to do this. I just been quite busy these past few weeks. Ken

Phil

Sorry Phil
What with work and my current Full Fathom Five Dragon Extreme obsession I'd completely forgot
about 'Uncle' Phil and his Caribbean adventures. I'll give him a tinkle later and if he's back see when
I/we can expect them.
Very Happy

That reminds me I was going to stick the Peewee in the Bacaruda to flight test.
I'll do that tonight cos Saturday's looking like THE flying day so far this year Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Gotta apologise I'm afraid lads.
I saw Phil at the weekend and he's been given some price work from a local
outfit which means he's being paid a fortune so he's lost the time and the
inclination to make these. Sad
A bit of a downer really cos I approached him in July last year but he is a
pensioner and I guess we'd all follow the money in his position.
Once again boys V sorry.

Oh well, you tried. Maybe when the work dies down you can approach him again.
