i have dealt with R2Hobbies for parts not in there usual inventory and they helped me find flex shafts that were smaller than those shown in inventory for a boat i was building. they also have weekly sales up to 50% off.
hobbyking always has sales on slow sales items. i have heard people on this forum ask for the mini stick before. see pic.

no one mentioned a preference of CL or RC.

yesterday HK had a J3 Cub with 40+ inch wingspan for $16+ one day only. EPP foam.

found the J3 Cub still for $16.90 + shipping. 40+inch wing Epp foam. made for electric, but looks like it could be easily converted to gas with a plywood firewall epoxied in or something similar.

I haven't flown it lately. The AUW is close to 11oz.

I coated the nose area with epoxy. It's been OK so far.

You are more familiar with the market than I but it seems new ARF pilots should start and learn by flying CL first. The investment is less but the principles of flying a very similar. Buying the radio gear alone for RC often exceeds $100 whereas a CL trainer is less than half of that RTF.

I've seem inexperienced RC pilots "wipe out" an RC plane the first time off the ground. Why set yourself up for that experience?

The best way to learn to fly ANYTHING is with the assistance of a knowledgeable "coach" that can take the newb through the steps to success rather than disappointment and/or destruction.

Just thought from someone with extensive CL and RC experience.

Dave... no offense... New pilots have no idea what CL is... A new pilot will pick up a cheap RC plane to fly in their backyard. Also a new pilot will wreck either an RC or CL, so that's kinda a mute point. RC ARFs are way easier to fix then a CL, you just buy the part, put it on and fly.

Still a "coach" or good flight sim helps avoid the disappointment of destroying your first RC plane whether it's repairable or not. Just learning not to overcontrol, as most newbs do, is a lesson unto itself.

Go into a dive and attempt to recover by pulling back hard on the elevator. Result: STALL which presents another problem itself. A CL has only one flight surface to control where in RC there are several. I've seen many "newbs" crashing in the resultant confusion of what to do next.

Of course learning "the hard way" is the most concrete of learning experiences but it may well lead to people getting out of the hobby entirely.

Fully understand and I agree but the gist of my post was more along the lines of "are there currently kits for sale for RC (or CL) that are ARF or RTF for Cox .049 engines?"

My primary mission was to let buyers know where they can buy such and secondly to perhaps distribute them ourselves.

IMHO, the Hobbyzone Champ is the best RC trainer, hands down. I have one. The thing is hard to crash.

I taught myself to fly RC with Hobbyzone Mini Super Cub. After that, I joined a local club and took flying lessons with an instructor, using a .40 size trainer. Earned my wings and it went from there.

Rusty has been helping me with CL.

All Bernie needs to do is list the plane "for experienced pilots only". Not all his planes have to be for beginners.

When I noticed several parts missing from my recently obtained "Pinto" 1/2A stunter kit I e'd Eric snd he sent thd parts to me right away. That's the type of customer support that we expect but sometimes don't get.

BTW, the "Pinto" is NOT a plane for first time builders as it lacks instructions. So you on your own to carefully devise your own strategy for the build. Experience is serving me well in the "Pinto's" construction.
