tether cars
I have never messed with tether cars and would like to try my hand at it. I'm not looking for anything special, just a daily driver. Can anyone tell me the parts needed to convert a baby bee to a car motor? And a cheap car to mess with. I don't want to have a collector fall over if I use the wrong car. Thanks ahead of time.

Re: tether cars
surf eBay, sometimes cox chassis from the 60's go pretty resonable, that would be cheeper then buying gears, axles, etc. seperate. Also Wen-mac or testors cars are the cheepest. the next step for a larger then 1/2a you'd be looking $250+

Is the diy pusher is the car with a plane motor and prop? And what's a good price to pay for '60's" tether car chassis and gear?

Most of the 60's COX Babe Bee powered tether cars like the Vette and Buick Riviera etc.. with the steel chassis are going to be fairly high in price for one that is in complete and runnable condition. Anywhere from $100.00 and up to as high as $500.00 for one N.I.B.
You can get them cheaper but they usually need a lot of work i.e. broken body, missing or broken body mounts and the most common item that breaks is the spur gear they are usually stripped or have broken teeth and new spur gears are a bit hard to find although they do pop up on Fee Bay every once in a while, they sell anywhere from $25.00 and up. The next cheapest thing would be the Shrike's or Prop Rod's which are easy to find in good running condition and if taken care of, they will last a long time. Also, Black Hawk models sells a Prop Rod style kit for an .049 that would probably be great for the first timer.

Hope this helps,

Re: tether cars
you can get pretty good handle on what somethings worth by doing an advanced eBay search, be sure to check completed auctions.

Re: tether cars
duke
i am in a similar situation.
the price of tether cars seems to be getting higher every time i look.
so my first venture is a DIY using an 010 on a 1/32 slotcar chassis.
just waiting on some bearings to arrive so i can finish off the driveshaft support, and was cutting brass to make the fuel tank when i found your thread.

Re: tether cars
Hey guys just posted some plans in my thread "something different" don't know maybe of interest the first is a
Mercedes meant for a wasp .035 I think
Then a f1 type meant and designed around a baby bee !!!
Haven't built one yet but looks simple enough
Great job on that DIY tether by the way looking good
Is that a Parma womp chassis I see underneath ? I was at one time thinking if doing that great minds eh decided against because I only have 049's and thought it to be a bit overpowered but with a .010 should be perfect loving the body as well

Re: tether cars
thanks dizzy
it is the same length/scale as a womp, but is actually a "sprints plus", is a lot narrower in the middle.
slot car parts are cheap and easy to find. and 48P gears are everywhere in s/cars and r/c.
in theory i can run anywhere from about 4:1 through 1:1.5(overdrive), so should be able to find a ratio that keeps the 010 humming nicely
now to try and find your thread?
cheers
